What is considered "resort casual" at a business conference? (m)

I know what it is when I'm on holiday, but I'm not sure what it means for a conference. On holiday I would wear shorts - but obviously not at a conference! Do you think cropped cotton pants would work? I wouldn't wear old jeans, but do you think dark pink jean-material pants would be OK? Skirts above the knee (but not really mini)? Sleeveless tops (with a sweater to throw on if the a/c is cold)?

Gee, I can handle business wear, I got used to "business casual", but now I have to figure out what "resort casual" means at a conference where I'm trying to win clients! I don't want to look stuffy, but I don't want to look completely unprofessional either!

Help!!

I would go with a nice pair of capris, khaki's and a twin set type outfit

Just the other day I saw a "resort casual" mentioned for a country club. It specifically listed shirt with a collar. It didn't say male or female attire.

Thanks for the ideas so far!

One problem ..... I don't own any khakis or polo shirts, it's just not my style!

So, I'm thinking cropped, tailored pants might be OK (they aren't as short as capris)? Even if they are bright turquoise?

I agree with twin sets being just right. I have one right now, but I've always wanted more, so maybe I'll go shopping!

One more thing: the conference begins with an evening reception, no dress code specified. The "resort casual" applies to the entire conference, evening receptions too I gather. Because it's evening can I jazz it up a bit by wearing a top with some shiny beading (not all over beads, just in places)? Could I get away with a spaghetti strap slightly dressy top and skirt?

I sound pathetic not knowing this, but honestly, when on holiday I am shorts and jeans, with sleeveless tops. I'm not quit on holiday here, so what I would wear on a trip to WDW doesn't quite apply! Nor do I want to wear my business casual clothes, because they tend to be on the dressier side (e.g. I wear blazers to keep warm!). I just don't have a nice, conservative, casual wardrobe!

Ugh, maybe I really do need to go shopping .....

I would wear the same kind of clothes I would wear to dinner on a cruise: a skirt and blouse or slacks and blouse. I would steer away from anything particularly flashy for a business conference.

Skirts that are above the knee and sleeveless tops should be okay. Also, any kind of slacks with nice top (blouse, sleeveless top, etc.) would be good. You might also be able to wear capris with a nice top.

I would go very basic on the clothes....khaki capris and a solid colored twin set or short sleeved top....maybe sleeveless if it was a sweater material. I would go with strappy, dressier shoes and slightly dressier jewlery. I think the clothes will make you come off as "resort casual" but the accessories will still show that you mean business....plus they are easy to remove if you are over dressed.

Good idea!

I think all your ideas sound pretty good.

I would think capris, twinsets or cute tops (nothng too low cut or revealing), a slightly above the knee (but nor micromini) skirt, those pink pants sound nice. Evening wear...maybe a pair of black or white pants with a sparkly top...not heavy sequin but the top with some sparkly threads running through it. Higher heels in the evening (but not 4"stilettos), flats during the day.
