What is considered "lunch"?

I'm sorry to keep asking Connections questions...I think I have ALMOST everything straight, but when doing an itinerary (which is not easy being my first visit! ), I'm finding that my times may be off a bit.

I'm going to get some of the Vacation Kingdom Lunch Vouchers, and was wondering what exactly is considered lunch? I'm assuming it means a certain time of the day...anyone know???

If a restaurant has the same menu for lunch and dinner, can I use the voucher during dinner time?

I know I can use the Q&C at anytime (right?)....it's the Vacation Kingdom Lunch Vouchers (The $29.50 ones) that's confusing me...

From the voucher, "Your Vacation Kingdom Lunch is valid during lunch hours only at a particpating restaurant.... "

As to when lunch hours are--just to be sure you could ask when you call for resservations. They will tell you what the last available seating is for lunch. 1 407 WDW- DINE

I always thought that the lunch and dinner menus were different. (But, I haven't eaten at all the restaurants at WDW, either.) Do you have the link to Deb Will's site to look over the menus?

Yes, I've been using Deb's - that's how I'm TRYING to determine if the vouchers are worth it - I found so far they seem to be for about 1/2 of the restaurants for my DH and I....

It looks like for all but a few you could easily get to $11.00 for combo meal, drink and dessert. Am I missing something here?

before you finalize your plans! Many of the restaurants stop serving lunch at 2:30 pm and reopen at 5. We did not find this out until attempting to go to the Concourse steakhouse at 3 pm. If you do your homework, view the menus, and plan where you use them, you will make out great with the vouchers- both lunch and Q&C.

After looking at menus, the vouchers don't make sense for us. The breakfast vouchers for adults are a good deal at character breakfasts, and the $11 vouchers used at Beaches and Cream are a good deal, but I can't see the value in a $29 meal voucher. After reading the menus at www.wdwig.com I know I'll spend less paying for my meals at the restaurants than by using vouchers (with the 2 exceptions being the aforementioned meals).

Travelitis; I found the BEST deal for the $27.50 vouchers is the Rainforest Cafe - they have entree's at $39.99!!! I figured up what I'd most likely want there and it came to $58 BEFORE tips and tax!! And that was NOT the most expensive meal either! If one was to go with the MOST ex*****ive way at Rainforest Cafe, then they'd save over $50 with the voucher!

Remember this when adding your prices: Vouchers include tip AND tax. For the $11 vouchers there would be no tip (except at Beaches and Cream since it's a sit down)...but for the $27.50 vouchers there is. 6% tip plus 15% tax = 21% added to the bill!! That's a LOT of extra money that doesn't show on the menus!!

I'm using 1 voucher for BOTH my husband and I (we will share the meal) at the following restaurants: 50's Prime Time Cafe, Cinderella's Royal Table, Le Cellier, and one at EITHER Alfredo's or Sci-Fi Dine in (whichever we happen to be in the mood for...We'll be using 2 vouchers (1 for each) at Rainforest Cafe because we'll want different entree's. When adding the cost (including tax and tip) I am saving between $3-10 on most, and about $25 each at Rainforest. The savings is great, but being able to PREPAY a few meals is even better. These vouchers include appetizer, entree, dessert and drink.

Same goes for the $11 Q&C vouchers - they're worth it - only saves a $1-$10, except Beaches & Cream which could be significantly more depending on if you order the Kitchen Sink (a dessert at $22 by itself!)...and they are available Lunch AND Dinner! These include entree, side, drink and dessert.

Another thing to remember when figuring the "value" of these: Drinks is ANY non-alcoholic beverage. Shakes at 50's Prime Time Cafe were around $4.00 I believe (I don't have the menu open on my computer right now, so I'm not 100% sure about the amount)....my DH and I LOVE to get shakes at restaurants but will normally not splurge...but since they are INCLUDED in the vouchers...then we will!

Personally for under $30 to feed us both at nice restaurants I feel is a BARGAIN! We eat out a few times a month and normally spend over $40 for the two of us (sharing an appetizer if we even get one, two entrees and two drinks)...

Speaking of drinks, I do have one other question about soda! When you buy a soda at a restaurant (or counter service), is it "refillable" for that meal, or is it $2.00 for a cup of soda with no refills?

For you it is a bargain, but we've eaten at the Rainforest at the Mall of America several times, so we're not going there at Disney. Their portions are absolutely huge, so splitting an entree is more than enough for us. I have water in restaurants because I don't want to drink my calories. My husband (not a small person at 6 feet 190 lbs.) has soda, but for us buying one entree and one drink the voucher just doesn't make sense. I've read the menus for restaurants that interest us, and they don't add up for us unless it's the character breakfast (adults not kids) or Beaches and Cream (where we'll use 2 vouchers but get one kitchen sink for the 5 of us).

I double checked what we'd order at Sci-Fi with and without the vouchers, and even after a 20% tip we still would spend at least $1.50 less than the cost of the voucher for my husband and me. The vouchers are pointless for the kids whose meals are $7.50 each ($5+$2.50 for glowing saucer). I wish they offered our family a better value, because I'd certainly use more of them if they did. On the down side, though, they are another piece of paper to lose, and we like to pay with plastic and keep cash and vouchers to a minimum in the event of a wallet being stolen.

You've very fortunate to have neat restaurants around you!

We live in Maine - the most exciting thing to happen to us is a TGIFriday's opening an hour away!!

My DH and I love dining out and splurging, so we found that the vouchers made sense in a few instinces....but it IS our first trip, so we probably figured wrong (for instance I didn't realize the portions at Rainforest Cafe were so huge!)...

We usually have water in restaurants too - but only because of the cost of sodas!

I agree that the vouchers are not worth it for the kids - especially if the portions are that big - enough to share!

I guess one disadvantage (potential disadvantage) is the prepaid tip - what if it were horrible service??? Oh well, I have high expectations for this trip anyway!

You're definitely right about "another piece of paper to lose" - I'll have to watch myself on that one! (I'm constantly losing my checkbook!! LOL)

Hey, I almost can relate to the Fridays an hour away being exciting. We moved from MN to TX and are 2 hrs. from Houston. We used to have Rainforest and the Odyssey (another very kewl theme restaurant) right at our fingertips, but now we're a much more limited in selection.

If you're going to have a frig and microwave in your hotel, then you could always have left-overs for a lunch break. Neither of us have ever been able to eat a whole entree there. We bought 2 entrees and got a free appetizer (gourmet pizza) which fed 4 adults and 2 kids. You might want to split a voucher and save even more money.

You're right that restaurant sodas can add up, and I like saving both a couple of bucks as well as a few hundred calories. The Rainforest at AK might have higher prices than the one at MOA, too. We loved Rainforest at Mall of America. Enjoy!

Good thing though - if the portions are that big, then I'm more than happy to share with my husband. I goofed and ordered one less voucher than I thought I'd use anyway, so it's actually a GOOD thing!! LOL!!

Yea, soda is definitely EMPTY calories! LOL - I try to drink diet whenever possible but then I'm stuck with the health ramifications of artificial sweetner....Do you know if Disney has Iced Tea (unsweetened) as that would probably work best for me....

I don't know if their tea is unsweetened as I don't drink tea or coffee, but I know they have tea on their menus. Isn't it pretty standard for it to be unsweetened? Just like coffee, people have such different preferences it makes sense to let people add sugar.

For some reason all canned or bottled Iced teas are sweetened.
In restaurants you can chose unless they only offer flavored tea then it is sweetened.

Here in Maine almost everywhere has sweetened iced tea - yuck - I drink iced tea because it's like 2 calories a glass - not for the taste LOL!!

Guess I just need to not worry about the diet while at Disney!!
