What Is Bumping?

Okay, its obvious I am fairly new to this Disboards stuff, I absolutely love all the info that I am getting from these sites. My question is, when some replies bumping, what does bumping mean. I haven't figured it out yet????

It makes the post go to the top of the boards again so it doesn't get missed. You're "bumping" the post.

Another board I'm on has a cute "bump" smiley for when you want to bump the thread but don't necessarily have anything to say - I don't think I've seen it on this board. (Sorry I can't post a link - not enough posts yet )

We used to do the "bump" in the 70's. What ever became of it?
