It is various flavored iced teas to which large pearl tapioca is added. It involves drinking tea and sucking tapioca pearls through a wide straw: Bubble Tea (also known as Pearl Tea). I've had this in Chinatown in Manhattan. I love it...DH hates it. A matter of taste.
Is this 'Boba Tea'? I tried it on a trip to LA, and hated it! Those squishy balls were not for me! My friend absolutely adores it, so I guess it's one or the other.
Just to add to the bubble tea discussion-"boba" tea is the same as bubble tea (boba is just Taiwanese slang for, um, let's say female anatomy ).
Twinglemum-They do have bubble tea in China in Epcot, but trust me, it is not very authentic. To me it's more like strawberry milk with some hard tapioca pearls tossed in. They don't even have the correct straws to drink it with! If you want a general idea of bubble tea, then definitely try the one in Epcot, but just know that the real thing is soooo much better.
P.S.-I have definitely found that bubble tea is a love it or hate it thing. I don't know anyone that just thinks it's okay. They either are obsessed with it or think it's disgusting, LOL.
