What is average lenght of DVC ownership

I am really impressed that DVC owners hold their contracts so long. It looks like my estimation of 20 years was too low, but in this case I am glad I was wrong.

OKW owner since 1997 when we bought our 1st contract. Bought our 2nd contract in 2002.

I'd sell my house before I'd sell my DVC.

LOL, I have owned BWV for 11 years, and have said the same thing. I'd give up just about anything before I gave up my BWV. We have rented out out points once, when we went on a cruise, but other than that they have always been used! Sometimes I wish I had more, but that's not going to happen.

With OKW, I think you probably had a lot more stable ownership base, much less financing, and a better economic picture for most of the period of ownership.

I agree with this statement.

I bought re-sale in 2000 and right now I would say, I'll never sell but who knows 10 years from now? I think some folks bought lots of points and maybe are downgrading now. I purposly resisted adding on because I knew that once my son grew up, and soon headed to college, our vacation schedule would change. Having reasonable monthly maintenance makes it something I hope to use till the clock runs out!

We bought at OKW in 1992. Best investment we have ever made! We have no intention of ever selling! We make it a point to either use all of our points or send family members on vacation when we can't use them (feels great to provide my parents or sister with a free Disney stay). In 21 years we have only let a few points go to waste, and it drove me crazy to have to do it!

if we had to sell, our BCV contract would be the first to go, then (& only if we had to) our SSR contract. hopefully, we would use those monies to buy more BWV points though
in almost 15 years, not a single point has gone to waste. the one mistake we did was renting out points a few times (job layoff) - that put us in a constant borrowing state we are only starting to get out of.

no way, no how, will we ever willingly sell our BWV contract .

I'm at 21 years and 5 months. I currently have no plans to sell.

We bought at OKW in 1998, added on twice. Then bought BWV and added on three times. The only year we did not go to WDW was 2000. We had two weddings in 6 months. But we try to go for W+F and F+G. Every other year the whole family goes (22). We will rent out points if needed,the MFN are getting worrisome. I don't think we will sell.

My Brother bought in early 1990 at OKW and my Sister and I bought in 2004. All 3 of us are passing on to our kids so I can't say but in our familys I think until they expire.

Have owned for 13 years. Definitely do not see us selling anytime in the future. Of course - will never say never and family emergencies (medical, financial) can happen anytime to all of us.

I have also met and know many DVC families here (where I live) and I know of two who do not use it every year. They also just pay their dues and go when they feel/can go. Just like owning a second home on the shore, the mountains. You take care of it, pay the expenses and go whenever you can/want.

I had lots more points many years ago but had to sell when I became ill. I have 170 now but I can never seem to make them last the entire year. My use year is Aug and I am down to 23 points till then.

Oh I was tempted more than once to tell one of them - I am here and would not mind using them myself. I don't see her much anymore since our dds graduated high school. They think nothing of it. The other party is a relative of my future dil and met her twice. Even though she has owned for years - I don't think/did not think from talking to her that she really understood how the whole DVC worked/options, etc.
