What is all of this talk about the monorail with SSR?

I've seen several posts about guides telling people who are buying SSR that the monoral might extend there someday.

I don't get it.

Why are they saying this? It seems pretty nasty just to throw it out there so people start thinking about when it won't happen-at least in my opinion.

Is this to get people to hold onto their contracts if they are having cold feet.

Am I missing something? I just don't get why this is being mentioned to new buyers. I thought SSR was selling itself.

I haven't heard that. Is it on the Rumors Board?? Maybe it's just sort of a speculation/wishful thinking type thing...you know..."wouldn't it be nice if the monorail went to SSR".

Since my career is in real estate, my guide and I love to get into all the lingo....knowing full well that we both understand what it means and what it doesn't mean but will imply.

There is what is called a Right of Way that goes thru the Saratoga Springs property for the monorail. If there was EVER to be an expansion of the monorail line, there is an area thru the property that would be dedicated to this use; ie: supports for tracks, power supply, or air space.

However, this by no means is meant to imply that it will ever happen.

If you've ever had an easement on your personal property, it works the same way. You can put an improvement in this area, such as your fence, a shed or another such structure but if the owner of this easement ever needs to do any work in this area, you must remove your improvement and they have no responsibility whatsoever to replace it. They very rarely ever have to do this but utility companies often reserve these rights so that they can readily access their water lines, sewer lines, or power lines.

Remember when Walt bought ALL THAT LAND IN FLORIDA??? Well, we can all hope that some day the parks will expand to that size but this purchase was just for the slight possibility and the fact that he never wanted to get into the same predicament he was in out in California.

My guide and I chuckled about the fact that people will jump on this rumor train and take it all the way to the airport and back!!!!

It is not a false statement, it is true but should not be thought of as any more of a possibility of expansion of the monorail than before.

I guess I was just a little put off when I read people were being told this.

I automaticallly thought the guides were saying this to drum up or keep business when they actually may just have been trying to inform someone of what MAY happen-so that if it did happen nobody would say "you never told us that, we wouldn't have bought here if we knew that".

Yup we were told that last month. Actually I think that was me quoted above.

But as someone else said it had nothing to do with out decision and as I said before it is highly unlikely it will ever happen of which I told our guide as such. Conversation changed direction. LOL

We still bought in. I think the bus service works just fine.

I guess I got this started. What my guide was saying was that Disney had a right of way and some day may choose to put the monorail through SSR. She NEVER indicated that IT WILL. In fact she was required by law to notify me (after I stated I was placing a deposit) that there is a right of way and the monorail may go through SSR. I had the option of declining if I did not want the monorail in my back yard so to speak! She was not using this as a sales push in any way. I was just saying that it would be nice if way, way, way in the future it would occur!

My exact quote was:

I am quite surprised at how my statement change from what "MAY happen" to "WILL happen"!

When I read this, my interpretation was exactly that given above related to the easement. To me, it was a caveat emptor rather than a sales tactic. This would take land and affect the views at SSR--be aware that the underlying land restrictions would allow this. Didn't read it to any way suggest that this was an amenity or a selling point.

I just asked out of curiousity.

My guide never said anything to me when we did our add on. I would think if they were legally obligated he would have said something. Maybe it is just for new members.

At first, it seemed like it might be a sales tactic but now it does, indeed, seem like something different.

Just a quick note.

Unless someone may have misunderstood what I said. I didn't take it as a salespitch as he did also mention the right-of-way and the fact that he had to bring it up. That is when I said it will never happen and we started talking about something else.

It wasn't like a sales pitch at all.

I never thought about it changing the views that might be offered.

Let's say they do put the monorail through there. Would they change any pts categories that they may put in place there?

Needless to say, we're looking forward to using our DVC resort with or without monorail service!

My guide also presented this "disclaimer," but face it, folks, if it wasn't a possibility, it wouldn't have had to be presented. I can't imagine anyone would think of a monorail as a negative, but it was part and parcel of the whole shpiel, which also included, if I remember correctly, that owners may be subject to view obstructions/noise, etc., should this ever occur. I don't think it would be even be stated by the guides if it wasn't a distinct possibility. But that's all it is right now...out there in possibility land.

We have added on at SSR and will also enjoy it with or without the monorail.

I would LOVE the monorail at SSR or any other resort we own at!

I think it would be great just to hop on the monorail and go to one of the parks. I also wouldn't mind looking at it outside my villa window. I think there is just something nice about it when you see it outside your window at one of the monorail resorts.

the only monrail expansion I ever heard of was from Studios to Epcot - that didn't go through to expensive

then AK to Epcot - that did not go through too expensive.

So until they expand the monrail to their theme parks - I can't see expanding it to DD. Of course I have been wrong before....

I stayed at the Grand Californian at Disneyland in CA and the view we received (stayed on points) was monorail!! The monorail went by every 10 minutes. I thought it was cool and with the windows sealed shut not that loud. It was a less expenensive room than park view of course. It just gave some Disney magic. It was also very convenient. Now, to live next to it 365 days a year would be very different, but was an experience for us for a few days. Really lfelt like you were right in the middle of the magic and we were!

Hey I heard they were going to expand the monorail to the Epcot International Gateway and then to MGM Studios, oh and then they were going to stop at BCV along the way! Right next to the noisy road! Just kidding!

Two years ago, most of us would have thought that the idea of a monorail extending farther through the WDW property was not even a remote possibility.
Then, we would never have predicted SIX new attractions all either open or under construction by 2003.
While they seem to be willing to let Disneyland dwindle, the powers that be are pumping big bucks into Walt Disney World.
So, all of a sudden the idea of Disney spending the money to extend its monorail system doesn't seem nearly as outlandish as it did several years ago.
The cost, of course, would dwarf everything else they're currently doing, so don't get your hopes up. But, it just doesn't seem nearly as unlikely as it did before.
