What is a water mouse?

I am planning to go to the marina at the Poly, GF, or Boardwalk one afternoon with my DD9. My original plan was to rent a sea raycer for a while, but I keep seeing references to a water mouse. What is it? Is it available at all of the resorts I mentioned?

And with any of the watercraft rentals, are advanced reservations necessary? We will be renting during mid-July.

Thanks!

A "Water Mouse" is exactly the same as a "Sea Raycer." They can't be reserved in advance, only on a walk-up basis.

Have fun!

You can also rent SeaRaycers at WL and Ft. Wilderness. I've never had to wait for one. They have always been readily available. And they are so much fun!!!

I would only rent a sea raycer from one of the MK resorts as there is so much more room to play. The Epcot resorts water area is very small. You will have a great time. We rent them every time we visit WDW.

The Water Mouse boat was retired in 2004 to make way for the Sea Raycer by Sea Ray.The Sea Raycer is very similer to the retired Mouse Boat with only small differences in shape, acceleration, etc. Many Guests still refer to the Sea Raycer as a Mouse Boat even though they are/were two different vehicles.Mouse Boat has become a "generic" term for any two-seater at WDW in the same way the term Kleenex is used to describe any tissue.:)

Here are some photos.

If you rent SeaRaycers on Seven Seas Lagoon and/or Bay Lake, Please stay well away from the larger WDW Watercraft (launches, cruisers and ferry boats) operating on these 2 lakes. WDW Watercraft pilots have no resevations about reporting those operating SeaRaycers unsafely to Lake Patrol who will then take appropriate action to include terminating the unsafe operator's experience.

THANK GOODNESS they do report unsafe boaters! There have been accidents involving unsafe Guest boaters.

Thanks for all of the info and the words of caution -- right now I'm not sure where I'll rent from, since I'm staying at the Beach Club but it sounds much more interesting to go around Bay Lake.

The sea raycers are only for two people right? Do they have any boats that could fit 2 adults and a 4 year old? :flower3:

You could rent a pontoon. Sea Racers will only fit 2 though.

And please don't worry about the post about the ferries and larger sea craft. Common sense will dictate, you should stay away from them.

Just have fun.

Based on my "extensive" experience observing operators of rental boats on Bay Lake and 7 Seas Lagoon, very few of those operators have common sense...

It seems that when renting they must certify and sign statements to the following:

1. They are complete idiots; :dance3:
2. They are willing to jeopardize their safety and the safety of others; and,
3. Promise to be totally oblivious to everthing going on around them.

I find it very disturbing that you are a CM.

Maybe Disney should stop the renting of boats all together. Of course, then these "idiots" paying your salary would no longer be doing so.

Out of all the times we have rented the sea raycers, there was only one time when we saw the patrol take two people off the water. They were teenage boys (nothing against anyone) that weren't observing the rules of the water. No, I am not on the water 24/7 and I am sure there are some out there they don't obey the rules but from what we have seen it's been only that one time. If you obey the no wake zones and stay far enough away from the shore and other boats you will be fine.

To the OP, if you do decide to rent, definitely go to one of the MK resorts. I know you said you are staying at the BC but if it is in your budget, grab a taxi over to one of them. That's how we get from resort to resort. Although you can take several buses to get there, for us it means more play time and less travel time. Have a great trip.:flower3:

A slightly different question about the Sea Raycers -

Last time I rode one was just about two years ago. At that time, the boat seemed noticeably slower than it had been in previous years, and the CM at the marina mentioned that the engines had been tuned down a little to save fuel.

For any Sea Raycer/Water Mouse veterans out there, how do the boats seem to you in recent weeks or months? Have they indeed lost some of the "zip" that they had back in the 90s and early 2000s?

And a separate question - the only marina in the Magic Kingdom area that I can remember having free lockers for boaters to use was at the Poly. (I remember that the CR had lockers for a fee.) What's the latest on marina lockers? Thanks.

We are going to Disney 8/16-8/22, staying @Pop with free dining. I noticed on our invoice that we will get a Sea Racer Voucher.
Does anyone know what this entitles us to? Also, where is the best place to rent a Sea Racer on Seven Seas Lagoon?
TIA :goodvibes

If memory serves me correctly the voucher is a 90 minute voucher but you only pay for 60 minutes. So you get 30 minutes free. Also, anyone of the MK resorts is a good place to rent the sea raycers at. All the MK resorts always have an abundance of sea raycers so most likely there won't be a wait to rent them. Have a great trip.
