What is a Water Baby?

I saw these dolls called "Water Babies" today...and several were princesses (Ariel, etc). What are they and why would my dd5 or dd2 want one?

I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but my DD had one a few years ago. She was about 3 or 4 at the time. It wasn't a Disney one, it was just a baby doll that you filled up with some water, and it was soft and squishy, like a baby. It kind of moved around a bit, if that makes sense. It was supposed to make the baby doll feel real.

I think I ended up throwing it away after awhile because I figured all that water sitting it in it couldn't have been that good. (She would take it in the tub with her and we would "drain" the baby, but not everything would come out.) She did enjoy playing with it though. Hope this helps!

We went through a couple of Water Babies when DD13 was young. It was her favorite doll until she was about 4 or 5. They weren't Disney back then. (The first one got a crack in her hand and she leaked the water., so we had to get a replacement doll.) She had a little pink outfit that had white glow in the dark stars. I sure miss those days. I'd say that your littlest would like the doll, but the older daughter -- not so much.

my dd (emma, too) had a water baby last year. she named her "heavy"- shes not too creative on names- we have twins named pink and purple cause of the clothes they have on! but anyhow, i just threw it away last week after 1 yr. she like the doll, but no more than any of her other dolls. "heavy" looked like she was losing weight so i thought id refill her. when i opened the plug where the water goes, some water came out. it was gross (the smell) like moldy. so i started thinking that water just sitting inside of rubber/plastic probably does get stagnant, etc. so im not buying another one.
