What is a "Sticky"?

New to DIS and I am wondering the difference between a "Sticky" and a "normal post"?

A sticky will be at the top of different forums that give information related that that forum. Basically answers to FAQs so to speak. Most stickies are locked so that they are kept as informational.
A normal post is like I just did. You started a thread and I posted in it and anyone else can come in and post too.

Thanks. Are stickies only written by staff, then?

Not always. Sometimes a thread is "stuck" because the subject is so regularly-discussed (or questions asked about it).
