What is a helicopter parent?

I've heard this term used lately, but I'm not sure if I know what it means. Is it a parent that hovers over their child and doesn't ever leave them alone?

They are parents who spend their lives leading their childrens' lives. You have to feel sorry for their kids. Especially when they are still hovering as the child heads off to college, etc.

A parent that hovers. It is talked about in the "Love and logic" program for kids and parents. You can look it up on line. It's a good program for families who are having issues with kid's behavior.

It can be worse than that. I was reading an article in a magazine today about generational differences at work and a corporate manager was talking about having parents call her to find out why their college graduate child didn't get a job offer!!!!! It's apparently not uncommon with Gen Y and below kids (or so they claim).

Well IRL it seems to be those parents who cannot let their children do anything without a parent up their behind. Here on the Dis though according to some it is any parent who doesn't through their kids out on their own when they are the ripe old age of 2!
