What is a good hook?

My buddy is going down to WDW Monday for the umpteenth time. I'm trying to get him and his dw to visit DVC. Other than the ooh and aahh that they'll get by actually seeing the place, what sort of incentives do they have for people who take a tour of the place? Aside from sales incentives. I know they still have ice cream, but what can I hook him on to get him over there?

When we went for the tour last November, they gave us meal vouchers (1 for each of us, even a 3 yr old and a six month old) and these automatic fast pass things that gave us an immediate fast pass when we put it in (I think it worked 3 times). :mickeybar

I can't offer any advice about incentives, but I can tell you we stayed away from the kiosks also, and finally decided it wouldn't hurt to call from home to ask for information on DVC when we could decide for ourselves ( without fear of an overzealous saleperson). It didn't take us long to realize we weren't being pressured (in fact just the opposite)!!! As many trips as your friend has taken, this might be an avenue to try, because we knew we could always (as a last resort) hang up the phone if we felt pressured. It doesn't happen with DVC and we bought immediately once we compared our options.

Past incentives have ranged from meal vouchers to gift cards to...virtually nothing. I don't think this is a situation where you can tell your friend "if you take the tour you will get ____ ."

I don't think there's anything wrong with stopping by one of the kiosks and asking if they would offer any incentive for taking the tour. Depends on how bold they want to be.

Do let them know that Disney will arrange round-trip transportation to minimize the time commitment. They can pick them up right at their hotel (or any other origin), take them to SSR for the tour, and then return them to any other destination on WDW property. Reportedly they will offer better incentives to those who agree to tour during the normal slow periods of the day (which I assume is around mid-day when most folks want to be in the parks.)

and we received fast passes for all of us (6) to be used twice. They are different than the fast pass that you get with your regular ticket. You put in the VIP Fast Pass and it spits out a fast pass ticket with the current time.

So if you put the fast pass in for Space Mountain and the wait is 90 minutes on the standby line and it's 2 o clock pm, the vip fast pass will give you a ticket for 2 pm and you walk right onto the ride.

We actually took the tour on Friday and went back on Saturday with our children to look it over again and got more fast passes. We wound up buying after we got home but the fast passes came in handy. Also they give you complimentary ice cream for the whole family , which was a treat for our little ones!!

We were staying off site at the time so they didn't pick us up but we had driven down so we just drove over to SSR which wasn't a big deal.

In the end we had too many fast passes to use so we wound up giving them away. If you want to take advantage of the incentive go early on in your visit .

Why do you feel the need to 'hook' or 'entice' him? Let the resorts impress him or not, and just be ready to answer any questions they may have.

I agree.

FWIW, I don't think you can count on any incentive. For every report that someone got something, there are more did not receive an incentive. We were in the latter catagory. There are no advertised incentives - like you see for other timeshares.

Best wishes -

Thanks for the info. However, as much as I talk about it to him, he is one of those who are going to need a hook to get over there. Obviously, Disney uses them, so just counting on good faith and the ooo wow factor isn't enough. If the hook works, fine. If not, so be it. We went just for the incentive 9 years ago, and have bought and added on 3 times. So, $2 worth of ice cream for DVC certainly was worth their outlay. Anyhow, I'll pass along the info. Thanks again for the responses. And Hook wasn't all bad, just misunderstood.
