What is A Good Action Shot Camera

Opanda doesn't seen to work on the photos in this thread (for me).

But if I save them to my Desktop, I can right click, Properties > Summary > Advanced to view the EXIF data.

I am using Opanda IEXIF 2 and it works fine on this thread. I don't think that it is the latest version and it is an upgrade from the first version I had so maybe you are using a different version than v.2? It's odd that it isn't working for you right from the webpage. :confused3

Just to let you know I have printed all of those pictures out and they look great! I have had very few pictures I am disappointed in. And the ones I don't like have been my fault by using the wrong settings, or the subject was moving and blurred. Or initially I had a heck of time getting use to the manual zoom and found I was turning it while shooting.
I am a scrap booker and my pictures mean a lot to me. This camera is more than a point and shoot. It is considered a bridge camera.
What I think people need to realize, the camera is only so good but it is also the person using it. The best equipment doesn't always guarantee you will have the best pictures.

"Great photos" is relative to the viewer. :) I'm just mentioning that what you think it great, many would consider "unacceptable" levels of noise. My wife is a scrap booker, and I cringe at some of the photos she uses. :)

I fully agree that a good photographer can do great things with any camera. But that expression is tossed around too much. Let's face it, a P&S won't get a good shot in the Haunted Mansion no matter how good the photographer. However, the 5D with a 50mm f1.2 lens, even in the hands of a novice with a little knowledge, will perform.

Part of being that "good photographer" is knowing what tools you need for the job. Over at DPreview, people laugh when newbies come in and say "I need to do X, and can only spend Y". I know, I did this. You end up with a bunch of junk that you need to replace anyways once you become a "good photographer" (for me; lenses). It would have been cheaper to spend the extra money up front.

Yep, Just re-installed version 2.3 for Firefox. Strange...

Oh my! So let see.....my pictures are poor quality....my scrapbook photos are bad........gee lets see how else you can put smilely faces on a post and make it seem like you are a helpful guy!
I stand by my originally comments. I love my Fuji s6000 it takes great low light pictures. You get a lot of bang for the buck. The noise level for this poor scrap booker is very acceptable.....But hey all us scrappers love crappy pictures....:):):):)

that's a little harsh if you ask me. I am also a scrapbooker and I love the pictures I get with my cannon s1. This is the reason that I won't ask questions on this board, it always gets ugly. I'll stick with the other boards that aren't mean about their opinions. It's fine to have an opinion, but it's not ok to be mean about it. (and if my dh ever posted on a message board that he "cringed" at my photos.... lets just say he'd be in the dog house if I ever found out about it. not cool dude, not cool. maggie

Now now Spinning. Did I say any of those things? No I didn't. Please don't lie and place words in my mouth. The only specific photos I mentioned were one's that MY wife used.

I stand by my comments, and there is no way, no matter how good you are, that your Fuji s6000 can outperform my DSLR in low light. But that doesn't matter does it? :) :) :) :) As long as you get the shot, that's what matters.

Not harsh at all. I never insulted anyone's photos but some that MY wife uses. She thinks they're great. All I see if out of focus kids, and a focus point in the horizon. She's a great scrapbooker, just chooses poor photos. What exactly was mean about my opinion? Are you my wife? LOL

Quality is relative to the viewer. Sorry if the reality of that is harsh. All it means, is that each of us can be happy with our set of criteria.

(General comment to all) You come to a Photography Board. Are you looking to better yourself, or just looking for praise and justification for a P&S you bought?

fortunantly, there are other photoboards. :) and I happen to like both my p&s camera and my dslr. They both take excellent pictures. However since the op was asking about cameras that would also be able to be used in her kindergarten class, perhaps the dslr is not the route to go. Spinning's camera would be excellent as would the cannon s1 (or 2, 3 etc). Just to get somewhat back on topic here. :) maggie

You are very correct. And back on topic for me. :) I just wanted the OP to be aware of the fact that many people buy P&S or slow lenses based on price, only to cave-in later and buy a DSLR, and fast glass. A DSLR is not a option for her, but it may be soon.

My sis teaches 3rd grade. Three years and 3 P&S cameras trying to shot plays. I told her three years ago to get the SLR and learn. After $1000 in trials with P&S, the school's buying the DLSR this year. Now if they take my fast lens advice.....

To the original poster ... We have a Nikon DSLR, but I wanted a digital camera to carry with me. I have a SONY (I don't remember which one, sorry). It takes photos & video. We took it on a trip to the upper midwest for a wedding & for site seeing. We were very pleased. I can understand that you wanting a multi-purpose camera to use under different circumstances.

Spinning, I think your photos look great :)!

As for scrapbookers vs. photographers, in my household we find there is a difference in what each thinks is a great photo. We belong to a local camera club. Photos I like for scrapbooking are not ones that usually place in contests (judged by professional photographers). It is fine to disagree, but let's not get personal here :).

Judith, thanks and well put....

Back to the subject at hand....I don't even care to comment on anything else..:):):)
the fuji s6000, it takes great pictures in a variety of settings and light. I have gotten many great pictures of my kids diving, swimming, playing, on stage, in the class room and on vacations. I am very pleased and feel it was money well spent.
Some day I may upgrade to a DSLR....depends on many factors, my money situation at the time, what my kids are doing and what I feel like I want!
I am done with this thread.
If the orginal poster would like to know more about my camera and what I like, love or dislike I will happily answer in a PM.

Thanks to all the advice-I had no idea when I asked what I thought was a very simple question (silly me) that it would create all of this. Right now all I need is a SIMPLE p&S As I said-I use to take pictures of my son who is a competitve dance and who also does many musicals but my kindergarteners use it as well so while the fancy camera might be ok if it was just me and Iwas able to sneak it into competions etc I think something like the Fugi or Cannon is going to be more "my speed" but many thanks to all who gave me advice here and through pm! It ismuch appreciated and gave me a lot to think about!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

snshine123, another thought ... be sure to go to a local store (camera shop, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) & hold the camera, get a feel for it, etc. It makes a whole lot of difference to me.

I have to defend our little spot here on the Disboards. You are going to get conflict on any message board no matter what the subject is, but please do not generalize this board that way. Compare it to other popular photography boards like DPReview and you can see that we are incredibly nice. Even compared to some other boards on this site, we are nice. Try just mentioning the words Brazilian tour groups, Heelys, refillable mugs, pool hopping, etc. on some of the boards and you can sit back and watch a real fight brew. I have been around these boards for many years and I cannot begin to count the nasty threads about topics like those. As soon as one falls off the radar, another thread shows up to replace it.

Please hold no hard feelings against the board and come back to see us sometime. The more the merrier.

Kevin

Good thing Spinning admits defeat and is done with this thread. ;) Come on. It's a Disney forum. Have to take comments light-heartedly.

OP: You should do fine with the Fuji. I personally couldn't recoomends a better zoom P&S in it's class. Just wanted to make sure you knew your options. I didn't know people would get so worked up over MY wife's scrapbooking...

rofl, yeah you do have a point. I have read some of those threads. :) maggie

I am one of the people that hang out here and at the resturant boards and to tell you the truth these boards are way friendlier even when someone is fighting over which camera is better granted its all subjective but at least its about something they are passionate about, You want to see nasty go and mention the Disney Dining Plan on the resturant board and watch thr fireworks begin:scared1: sort of off toic so I apologize to the OP

I agree on this being one of the friendlier areas. I've spent a fair amount of time in the DVC boards and they can get uuuuuuuuuugly! (You want a firestorm, just dare to say about one DVC resort being "better" than another!) The Dining Plan certainly causes all sorts of bitter debates, and there's all sorts of topics in Community that'll get your blood boiling. Yikes! :)

This Photography board is, I think, about as docile as a photography board can get. Otherwise I wouldn't still be here, that's for sure. I run my own forum and I get my fill of nasty debates on there. :teeth:

Not everyone wants or needs a DSLR. The S6000 is about as good, image-quality-wise, as you're going to get with a point-n-shoot, especially in low light. I don't think it's productive to attack the photos from it, considering that it a very different beast, and can be had complete for $250-300, unlike a DSLR. Can a DSLR produce sharper photos and better low-light ones? Of course, its sensor is nearly 10x as big. But the S6000 can also do much better in low-light than its competition.

So we're all in agreement on the S6000 for the OP....

Now if you'll all excuse me, I need to go book double ADRs and talk about it in the Dining Forum, then over to the DVC forum to stir up a little debate. LOL

Have fun! Here's some suggestions:

"Disney is lowering the pool temperatures!"
"Boardwalk is nicer than Beach Club."
"I think we all need to charge more than $10/point when renting!"
"We all hate SSR and people only buy there to stay other places and I can't reserve past the 7-month window any more!"
"When are they opening a Contemporary DVC and what will point costs be?"
"Can I afford DVC?"
"I see someone renting DVC rooms on eBay for a ton of money!"

Etc, etc, etc... yes, I've definitely hung out there from time to time. :) I haven't looked to see if everyone's started bashing Animal Kingdom Villas yet, as the newest resort always get the most hatred and vitriol.
