What is a friendship shower?

I just saw some pics on facebook of a friendship shower. What on earth?

I don't know. We had what we called a friendship shower at work for a friend whose home burned down but I don't think that's the same thing.

just a guess - i think it's like the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie goes to a baby shower for a friend and realizes she's spent some insane amount of money on wedding shower, wedding and baby shower gifts for this friend and others, and she may never have any of these occasions. The "friend" makes her guests take off their shoes at her party and then when Carrie's $400 shoes are stolen says she shouldn't have $400 shoes anyway. Carrie goes to the store and registers for a replacement pair and sends her "friend" the info saying she's having an "I'm not getting married" shower... Ok, long winded, but I hope that made sense
