Just wondering if anyone knew anything about this type of plane. This is what we are flying on to get to Barcelona next summer for our Disney cruise. Is it just a really big plane? Is there anything special on them since it is an overnight flight? Thanks for any help!

It's a big plane, but that doesn't mean that YOUR seat will be big... ;) (Unless you are sitting in first, business, or United economy plus or other premium economy seat)

check out seatguru.com. I fly 767's quite often but prefer the Airbus 340. Now, that may be due to the fact that I fly Air Canada's 767, where the seats are made from cardboard. Even on Lufthansa's A-340 the economy seats are small small small.

(But I admit that I am spoiled by United's Economy plus with extra legroom - if you are flying them it's worth the price to upgrade if you aren't an elite member. And if you are flying on points, first class is WELL worth it. For 20,000 extra miles I flew Lufthansa first class 14 hours and it was the only way to go)

Thanks for the info! I looked into upgrading us to first/business class and for our family of 5 it would cost an additional $7,500! :scared1: So, I guess that's just going to be one long 8 hour flight to Barcelona!

actually, $7500 for 5 ppl is a pretty good price for an upgrade to first....

What airline? can you use miles to upgrade? (I can on United) or buy Economy plus access for the bigger party members?

It might be a good price, but it's not in our budget! :rotfl: We are flying Delta. Some of us have some miles, but I don't know how many it would take to upgrade. No one in our party is huge. Hopefully we can all just sleep. We travel a lot in the car so we're used to not having much room and just going to sleep to make time pass.

No, I wouldn't pay the $7500 either, I just meant that $1500 is on the low end to upgrade, as I see business/first class fares to Europe over $6,000... :teeth:

8 hours isn't that bad - it takes me 9 hours to get to Orlando. That's about my limit. 14 hours is a definite need for an upgrade, in my book. But I do admit that I have been totally spoiled by United Economy Plus, and they have my loyalty for life as a result.....

I would assume that you have an afternoon/evening flight? adjust your watch to the new time zone as soon as you board; pack eyeshades and noisecancelling headsets; grab a pillow and blanket; take a sleeping pill as soon as you board, and SLEEP. Then partake of the breakfast before landing and your body should be somewhat adjusted.

On arrival day get outside in the sunlight and don't get to bed too early to help your body adjust.

Starting 3 days before your fligth eat light meals avoiding fatty foods. Drink water and no pop or caffeine if you can. Day of your flight drink lots of water and only water.

That's the easiest way to combat jet lag.

Couple of years ago we took a 767-300ER on a 9 hour flight in coach class. I'd have to say, it was definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. Since there was 2 of us, we had selected seating on the window side (seating is 2-3-2), so there was no bother of having to move for anyone or ask anyone to move for us when getting out of our seats.

Out of all the airliners I've been on, it's been my favorite for comfort. No, it's not roomy, but the layout and size of the plane makes it feel a little more roomy than others. (Higher ceiling, 2-3-2 seating arrangement, etc.)

Enjoy the trip!

Good advice from Bavaria about helping to overcome jetlag on the way over to Europe. Sleep as best you can on the plane (try for at least 2-3 hours) and then definitely stay awake that first long day in Europe. You'll sleep like a baby that first night over there. If you somehow give in and go to sleep in the afternoon you'll screw up your adjustment and be wide awake come 1am.

The Boeing 767-300ER stands for "extended range". The plane was developed to be able to stay aloft longer than other 767's and thus you can fly to Europe nonstop from the U.S. with this aircraft type.

I would also add that you should anticipate awaking around 5-6am on day two; try and sleep longer if you can.

If you absolutely can't sleep longer, get up and do something fairly strenuous, then plan for a midday nap, and go to bed at your usual time. This should get you into a normal routine..... (this past summer my relatives decided that the 'fairly stenuous' part was a hike up a mountain! :teeth: I had a very good nap after that...)

Thanks for the advice! I need all the help I can get, this will be my first trip out of the coutry, except for Mexico, but that was a pretty short flight.

I am a master at sleeping while traveling! My family all makes fun of me, they say I get in a car and immediately fall asleep! So I am sure I will be able to sleep on the plane and I will try to stick to the advice when we get to Barcelona. We have 2 days in Barcelona to catch up before getting on our Disney cruise.
