What if your trip spans 2 use years?

Oh! I didn't realize we could do that! That may be best for us since we do want to travel in the April/May timeframe at least for the next several years and I'm worried that it'd get too confusing trying to use points right at the end of our use year every year. Plus if we had to cancel or change last minute it might mean we'd be more likely to lose points.

Nice to see another NC Disser - seems like I hardly ever run into any! We're in Holly Springs, but putting that on here seemed silly - who would know where that is? :)

Banking and Borrowing is one of the real beauties OF DVC. Though a different scenario than yours, it's a must for us. My mother is actually the OWNER ( I'm an associate on her account ) and she always takes a BROOD with her. ( last trip, we were 15!!! ). So she banks one year into the next and borrow points from the following. This results in three UY's worth of points per trip. ( well sort of, she doesn't borrow the whole UY ). This way, we end up going roughly every 2 years, and we rent a lot of space :)

Thanks to everyone for all the responses. I'll have to call my guide back today anyway, and I guess I'll ask about UY since I defintely wrote down May as being the start of our use years from the last conversation we had. I know he said we would be getting 2008 points, so I dont think the May date was waiting until kidani opens because he said we wouldn't get 2008 points at BLT since it's not open yet :confused3 Good to know how it works though if we ever do need to do a stay that happens to fall that way.
They are starting with 2008 points for some Use Years (Jun, Aug, Sep, Oct and Dec) at Kidani. Just because your initial UY begins on, say, Oct 1, 2008 doesn't mean you can use the points at that time -- because the resort is still under construction, those points can only be used for stays beginning May 1, 2009 or later.

When you purchase a DVC contract, you are purchasing a small percentage of a set of rooms in the resort. You are not required to stay in the rooms that you own -- you can stay in any room in AKV or any other resort. You are trading your room for someone else's room. But you don't have a room to trade until May 1, 2009 because your room is still being constructed so that May 1st occupancy date restricts the use of your first set of points to May 1st or later. Without that restriction the system would be out of balance.

ETA: The reason why the Jun-Dec UYs can start with 2008 points is that those points are valid for stays after May 1, 2009.

If you have Kidani points, you would not be able to book nights in April 2009 with them (because that part of the resort opens 5/1/09, points can only be used that date or after no matter where). You may have received developer points for 2008, which I believe can only be used at SSR or Disneyland.
