What happens if your luggage doesn't get to you in time before your ship sets sail? Flying in the afternoon before, but can't get a direct flight. Are airlines responsible for getting your luggage to you at sea?

I would imagine that DCL will get it to the next port of call. The reason that I say this is because we had accidently left some luggage in the Hilton near Downtown Disney, but we didn't realize it until after we were already on the ship. DCL bent over backwards to contact Hilton and get our luggage to the ship. Guest Services even mentioned that if they couldn't get our luggage before the ship set sail, they would have it for us at our next port. So, I'm sure that the same would happen if it was lost by the airline.

Nope - I could be wrong b/c this happened to my family about 15 years ago -

but we went on a cruise with our cousins and one of the boys luggage never made it to the ship - luckily we had another cousin about the same size so they shared clothes - but I remember my aunt trying to find him clothes at our first port

Always the scary risk when traveling!!! Buy a good insurace policy that will cover the cost to buy replacement clothing. I think the one we purchased covered up to $500 for lost luggage!

We came into MCO late for our cruise due to weather conditions. We made the ship, our luggage did not. DCL flew it to our first port of call, St. Maarten, but we were without it for three days. It was a pain, but DCL did their best to accomodate our needs. Thye even loaned us formalwear for formal night.

We booked our air through DCL and had travel insurance. Delta airlines reimbursed us $300 for items we had to purchase while on board (P.S. they don't sell underwear!). Our travel insurance company reimbursed us a little over $200. We basically got most of our souveniers with this money.

Been there, done that! The airlines are "supposed to locate your luggage and send it to your 1st port. The airlines cover very little as well as standard insurance policies. I remember arriving w/ the clothes on our backs. Ladies remember, there are no underwear for sale and swimsuits run around 80-100$ on a ship! I suggest packing a really good carry on to last until your 1 st port( w/ the exception of formal wear/ ship has loaner's.)
P.s. we now fly in the day before the ship sets sail.
Good Luck and do what's right for you!

Can we all say travel insurance - yes, that is why travel insurance is sooo important for a cruise. And if any of you have ever had the airlines have to deliver luggage to you, you know they are less than reliable on getting it there the next day, therefore, I totally can't see them being able to get it flown out to your 1st port of call during the limited time you are in port - it may happen, but its totally risky to rely on that being the case.

You know, on our boat, a fellow DISer had luggage lost by DCL! It was her DH's stuff (especially formal night tux and such), so that he had to wear casual clothes the first few days (no complaints from him). Eventually his luggage got to his room three days later and wet, but DCL dry-cleaned it all!

We joked w/them at first that the luggage was getting dragged behind the ship...I think we were right! LOL

As we were docking in St. Maarten in the morning. We watched as several cars pulled up and dropped off several pieces of luggage waiting to be loaded onto the ship. So it does catch up. Not sure how it got there (DCL vs. airline), but it did.

There is a CM at the Orlando Airport that is in charge of locating all bags delayed by the airlines and getting them to the next port.
