What if your child needs to see a doctor?

It might be nothing, but our oldest daughter is suddenly coughing. We're about to be leaving for the GF.

If it should get worse and warrant seeing a doctor while we're there, perhaps needing antibiotics, what do you do there? Are there any (general practitioner) doctors who see kids on-site for just a small check-up? Thanks.

You can have your home dr. phone a prescription to turner drugs and they will deliver it to your resort. There is an urgent care center that sends a van for you to your resort if you need to see a dr. Just ask at guest services.

Also, keep in mind that most shops (regardless of what they are selling) at Disney have medicine for sale. It's a lot of times behind the counter. We found this out on our last trip when we needed children's Tylenol. We asked at one of the shops in Epcot where we could find some and they had it inside a cabinet behind the register. You'd never have even known it was there if you didn't ask.

When our then-toddler had a head injury at WDW in 2004, one of the paramedics said if it was his child, he would go to After Hours Pediatrics. (www.afterhourspediatrics.com/) Our son was extremely phobic about doctors and medical treatment, and he responded beautifully to this place - a Nemo theme helped him to relax, and they had a flat screen TV on the ceiling for him to watch a movie while they stitched up his head. Great people, and I don't remember it being more than a typical emergency room.

:thumbsup2 After Hours is a lifesaver, Our youngest got very sick last year, we ended up taking her to After Hours, The DR on call was awesome she was great with Madi who ended up needing a shot of steroids and 2 breathing treatments. Plus they called to check up on her the next day.

This stuff is good to know. I hope never to need these services... but having it will make me feel better.

I have wondered this also, but the extra wrench for us is that we're Canadian so will be travelling with out of country insurance. We've never had to use it before but I think we have to go to an approved care center. I'll look into it before we buy the insurance and see if this one is listed.

Thanks for the info about the afterhourspediatrics. I'm printing out locations just in case. I'm hoping since I'm prepared we'll never need it. We're just getting rid of the stomach flu here and we are leaving in 2 weeks!

I'm printing this off as well! This would have been uber handy last March we leave in a few days and I'm already stressing the allergies/asthma attacks.

I can recommend AGAINST the FH Celebration ER, ugh that place was intersting the people were nice but it could be cleaner. I work in health care at a medical center so I can be forgiving but it was bad. The PICU was very nice downtown Orlando tho. If we need ER services again we know now just to go to Orlando; Celebration has no peds services.

My son had a bad ear infection a couple years ago. I don't know the name of the hospital we took him too but this is what we did. We called the phone number on the back of our insuance card and asked if there was a ER that was in network. They gave us the name of the nearest one. We got the directions from POP and found it no problem. This was at 4am. We got the bill a month later and I rember it being way smaller than I thought. If you got a rental car I would just go where your insurance is good.

I highly recommend NOT going to centra care! Blah! It is the closest one to Disney, but I've gone there a few times with a friend when we were on an internship, and they were just AWFUL! She waited hours just to see this Doctor for less than 3 minutes who grossly misdiagnosed her, and then during the followup a few days later, DENIED saying that even though she had written proof! They also didn't really seem to care at all about the patient - just about getting to the next one.

On the other hand, I recommend Celebration ER. I ended up there 3 times during my internship - it was the only place that took my out of state insurance, as it was a company local to my Dad's work. The first time (sprained ankle) I waited literally 5 minutes and went from a nurse to an x-ray, to a few minutes with a doctor as well as all the first aid supplies I would need to care for it. They were great! All the other times I waited less than an hour, and one doctor even found a very rare condition that I have that had gone undiagnosed my entire life.

I've also heard VERY good things about afterhours pediatrics for little kids! Have fun on your trip, and hopefully you won't need to visit any of the above!
