That eats off the kids menu? Will they let her do that? The kid lives off chicken fingers and PBJ. Would we be able to use her credits for something else and just pay for hers? I scrolled thru the list and didn't see this brought up. TIA. :sunny:

I dont know if you will be allowed to order from the kids menu at TS. I have had my 15y old order from the kids menu at local restaurants. That doesnt mean they have to allow it. Most kids menus at WDW are for 9 and under. Whatever you order for you 11y old, you don't have to use a credit for it if you'd rather pay that meal OOP, just tell the server what you want to do when you order, to make the billing clear :thumbsup2

Generally, worst-case at WDW, they'll charge you an adult price for a child meal served to anyone over the cut-off age. You probably want to ask the server what they're willing to do for you, at each restaurant. Unfortunately, there is no policy-like answer that you can rely on working for you in each case. Each meal will be handled on a case-by-case basis, at the discretion of the server and management working at that time.

I'm confused -- if you mention "credits," that makes me think you have the DDP, and if you have an 11-year-old, they would charge you the adult price for the plan. So, if indeed you're using DDP credits it's a non-issue -- she's got adult credits and you *should* be able to use them for anything, including kid's meals (since you are essentially then paying the adult price for them). Am I missing something?

The important thing is that chicken fingers and PB&J were NO WHERE on the menus when we where there in October...dining plan or not! Yes, I do believe that a server would let an "adult" order off the kids menu if they really wanted to, but you are still paying an adult price for the 11 year old-why not get better food??? :)

My 10 year old "adult" ordered from the adult menu everywhere. The choices were way better than those horrible healthy new kids meals. Trust me, DH and I tasted the stuff as we have 2 other "kids" on the DDP. It was horrible food. My almost 8 year old was really upset at times that his brother got way better food than him most of the trip. If we do the meal plan again, I plan to pay adult price for him even though, he'll only be 9 on our next trip.

:thumbsup2 I was thinking if the 11y old can order the kids meal, pay for it OOP (along with any other sides or desserts needed) And save the TS for another day like a special breakfast etc. They may also do an adult size portion of chicken strips (if you ask, and if it is on the kids menu)

We were on the dining plan in August of 2006, before all of the changes. Two of my children, 13 and 11 would eat nothing but chicken strips. We just told the server and the boys recevied adult portions of chicken strips. I don't know how it would work now but I would think that If I want to use an adult credit for chicken strips that Disney would be HAPPY to do it. It is a financial win for them.

I hear you disney mom :) She is not a big eater when it comes to "normal" food and is picky. She'll eat some salad but lives off plain chicken most of the time. If it has a sauce on it, forget it. So, we can pay OOP and get her whatever and apply the TS credits to say, Hoop Dee Doo or the Luau, which are 2, correct?

Thanks! All these new rules are making my head hurt LOL

Same situation, but my girl will eat her weight in salad. We'll be splitting some meals, she'll be eating an appetizer as an entree at some meals, and sometimes -- if we're allowed -- we'll pay OOP for a kids' meal. I don't want to count on that, however, so we're keeping our options open.

I have one that is a fairly picky eater, but does eat things like steak and chicken, just doesn't like any sauces or spices on it, likes things fairly plain. You can get things plain so I'm told so maybe that will help if you can't get the chicken fingers and pb&j. Just a thought. Sorry haven't been to disney in years so don't know what they have... but so totally understand the picky eater dilema. (I have what feels like the only child that doesn't like pizza or a coke - hates any kind of soda)

I used a trip once to get my picky eater to eat other things. It worked I have to say. Just told her that she had to eat what was there or go hungry. She kind of got caught up in us being away (we weren't at Disney), but she did try things she didn't normally try at home. Maybe it's the idea of someone else other than me cooking. Once she did try things and like them I now find at home she eats a broader amount of items. And of all things she found she loves fish!!! Go figure!

Are you doing any 2 credit dinners? If so, pay out of pocket for your child's kids meal, save the credits for the night when you dine at the 2 credit restaurant. Much more cost effective.
Moderators - don't freeze the thread!! She paid for adult meals!!

Yup: As long as your child is 11 years old, there's no problem doing as AllNamesTaken suggests.
