What if you don't like your guide?

We bought a resale back in 98 and were assigned a guide. I never got a good vibe from him. We never actually saw him until we had to sign off on the OKW thing where you had to have it in writing that you didn't want to extend your contract. He could not be bothered with us, left us sitting a long time waiting for an assistant, and I did not like him at all. If we add on points, I do not want a commission going into his pocket. How can I change my guide to someone more friendly?

I know you can request a specific guide. Do you know of anyone who had a great experience with their guide? If so, ask for them. I'm sure (even though it's not supposed to happen, but....) if you stick around long enough, someone here will recommend a guide.

Simply call a supervisor and ask for a new one, explain why briefly in general terms. We have once but for different reasons, because we like to meet with them on occasion and ours was moving to VB at the time. I had not met her at the time, just wanted someone local. Ended up meeting her at VB later though, we had a nice chat.

Find a thread that is called Who is your Guide. Look to see if any of the Dis'er who's opinions or comments you feel mesh with yours are on the list and see if that helps. Maybe you could pm them and ask for opinions about their guide. I'm not sure that we can post the names of our guides here on the boards so this might be a way of finding a new one without breaking any potential rules of the boards. Hope I haven't with this post. Most people wouldn't post who their guide was if they weren't happy with them IMO.

This is what we did. We had some frustrations with our original guide. For instance, we told her multiple times that it was a cash purchase, yet our paperwork came in as a financed purchase. She also promised to secure reservations for our travel dates prior to us closing, but would never return our calls. I explained all of this to a manager and we were given a new (much more responsive) guide. It's been smooth sailing ever since. The only awkward moment was about 1-1/2 weeks after we were reassigned. I got a call from our original guide, who FINALLY was returning my calls. She didn't even realize we had been reassigned and said she was calling to get our travel dates. I told her it was no longer necessary because our new guide had taken care of it for us. Our original guide sounded surprised and asked why we had a new guide... so I responded, "Because we asked for one." Wow, there was a very awkward silence after my response!
