What if you didn't know??

One thing to keep in mind is you can't read inflection or tone in a post. I remember melbiel's thread. She typed something that she meant a certain way. Unfortunately (for her) NUMEROUS people read it a different, antagonistic way.

This is not a slam against her but simply to point out the words you choose to use may not be read the way you meant for them to.

My personal pet peeve is when someone asks a question and the FIRST response is

"here we go again popcorn::"

well WHY does it have to be again? why start something where it doesn't need to be started? if you can't give an answer then why respond... and WHY respond just to get things stirred up. :confused3

that being said it is easy to ignore them (at least for the first few pages until it turns into 10 pages of bickering lol) and there are a lot of helpful people on here.

like when I asked about little business card sized thank you cards for CM's that go out of their way to make our trip special. who would have thought THAT could go wrong lol but it did. one person responded with info and then suddenly there was "how stupid... etc etc" How can you possibly turn a thread about thank you cards into something bad?

BUT I did get a lot of helpful info and even a template to use from a very nice DISer :D

I couldn't agree more. I recently asked a question and I had no intention of creating a problem - but unfortunately, I was jumped on immediately. When I defended myself, I was then told that I just didn't like the answer to my question (which was not true at all!).

I don't get why people are upset that someone asked a question which may have already been asked before. I guess what these people are not realizing if that not everyone (in fact, most people) do not patrol these boards on a daily basis. I think that most people come on to try and plan a trip and get some, hopefully helpful, information. This being said, it is obvious that some of the same questions will be asked. If you don't like it, DON'T RESPOND. No one is forcing anyone to type out a (nasty) response.

Fortunately, it seems that you often get a few nice responses before the nasty ones come out. So
as someone else suggested, I would just read the helpful responses and ignore the fanatical ones.

I say keep asking questions. There are always nice, normal people out there willing to give a
helpful answer!!!

Here we go again, lol. popcorn::

I never give it a second thought when someone asks what could be termed a "repeat" question, because things at Disney have a tendency to change so often. If I went to Disney in September, and someone else went in January, they may have come across changes that I woudn't be aware of. That's also why I tend to reference how long ago my experience was, i.e., "when I was there last month", etc. Also, the DIS is a big place, and it took me a while to learn my way around the entire forum, so I tend to give the newbies the benefit of the doubt.

As far as some of the contradictory answers go, that can also be blamed on Disney in many cases. Since they don't always enforce the same rule the same way twice, my experience with a certain issue may not be the same as the next persons. It doesn't mean that either of us is wrong - we can only comment based on our own experiences. No one intentionally gives incorrect information - we're all here to help!

I agree with the idea of checking out the first few posts after you ask a question and then just letting the thread go. Most of the time, you will get the information you need quickly.

You can obiously tell by our posts that we are newbies...

Yes there are stickies, search options... sometimes people just join to ask a question, is that so bad?

If you don't wan't to respond then don't; but why be bullying or mean about it... SO UN-DISNEY-LIKE OF YOU!

I joined here recently hoping this would be a friendly, open, forum where I could ask questions, share my experience, or god forbid, maybe even get some answers... not some high school clique!

I don't take the negative responses to heart (as I hope other newbies don't either).

Post away newbies! Post away!!!!

This. 100% :thumbsup2

As a battle-scarred veteran ;) , I suggest just ignoring the negative comments. Let the others fight and just watch until the thread implodes.

Welcome to the DIS:)
We are all full of the magic, and can be very passionate people, everyone has bad days, everyone can get defensive - especially about something they love. Don't take it personally and know that in the end its a family - crazies and all!:upsidedow So, welcome to our dISfunctional happiness:laughing:

I have been posting, reading and searching on these boards for a couple of years now and it still am amazed at some of the responses I see to questions. Just the other day I was looking for some information on the transportation board I used the search function and didn't find any information I was looking for. I looked through the threads and still didn't find an answer to my question. So I posted a new thread to ask. And wouldn't you know it I overlooked a Sticky that addressed most of my question but not all. Sometimes you can look so hard or there is just so much information that you miss it or your search doesn't contain the right words to find what you are looking for. It is unfair to get upset with new posters because you assume that they didn't look or us the search tool. Sometimes you just have to ask again even if it is the ten thousandth time you have seen it, it is the first for the poster, most of the time. Sorry for my spelling errors I know that is a pet peeve for many people.

The two parks on one day question, for example, is not cheating anybody on the surface...you have paid for those admissions and you won't get to use them again. However, and this is a big however, that is not how Disney handles its policy concerning that and it is for a very good reason.
They would lose revenue by allowing that.

Unless they just abolished the Park Hopper option, they wouldn't ever be able to sell another one. That's why that rule is in place and of all the rules that Disney has that one is consistently enforced. The domino effect of that would be that people would try and take advantage of buying a larger number of days, which with the current price structure would be cheaper than buying the Park Hopper. Allowing that to happen would mean no more discounts for extended days purchased and defeat the plan to keep people in the resort for longer periods of time.

Thank you for this explanation - I would always get hoppers just to have the choice but I did wonder about the reasoning behind not allowing 2 day passes to be used and it now makes perfect sense :)
