Hi all,

I want your advice... Friends of ours are off to Kidani in Sept and hubby and I want to join them... we can get rooms now; who knows what will happen a month or two down the road.

Our biggest issue now is that we've heard that my hubby may need to go out of town for training for a month. If he does that it's up in the air as to if we can get away for more than weekends away... hahah as I say.. it's not always easy being the wife of a soldier. :)

If I book now to ensure we get the room can I please get clarification on what happens if we cancel? Either way if we cancel it will be before our banking period deadline.

Oh I guess I should clarify: Our planned trip is in Sept, he may need to go away in June.... I am afraid if we wait until June we may not be able to get a room.

I don't exactly understand what you're asking. Your husband may have to be away for the month oif June, and your wondering if it affect your vacation in September? :confused3

Any, the DVC cancellation policy is this: If you cancel at least 31 days before your scheduled check-in date, the points return to normal status in your account, and you can bank them if you are within your banking window.

If you cancel 30 days or less from check-in, points go into holding status. They would need to be used to book a vacation 60 days or less from your desired arrival date, and they can not be banked.

If you cancel on day of arrival, ponts are considered used, and they are lost.

Yes because if we goes away for a Month in June there's probably no way he can get more time off for us to go away for a week long vacation in Sept as he will already be taking a month long vacation from his regular job to go away for training (military).

I shouldn't say there's no way... he would have to take time off with no pay and it's just not worth it to me or him for him to do that for a vacation. Priorities are priorities and LOL a pay cheque is always a priority over a vacation.

And thanks for the clarification. Makes me feel better than I can book now and once June hits we will know whether he is going away or not.

Thanks!

If your husband is taking time away from his regular job for military training (? national guard) I would think his employer would not count that as vacation time. It would be time off or leave of absence to serve his country. If he is gone for as long as a month that would be considered as a deployment and should have nothing to do with his vacation time at his regular job. You might want to check and see exactly how it all works with both the military and his employer. At least that way you'll have some firm answers and can plan. I know there are a lot of people who serve in the guard who are called up to serve for various amounts of time and are away from their usual employment. Everyone I know who has had to do this went back to their regular job when they came home again. They were on a military leave of absence while they were away. When they came home their vacation time and all else was intact as it had been before they were deployed. Just a thought to consider.

Those were my thoughts, too. But the OP lives in Canada, and their policies/employment laws may be different than the US for military service.

I don't feel I need to explain why but as a family we have decided for him to take his 4 weeks vacation for course. his job is secure; that isn't the issue or part of the debate.

Thanks for offering your advice even though it does not pertain to me at all being that I (and many other DVCers aren't American ;) )

We're going to probably just bank our points and do something 'big' in 2011.
