What if I must cancel the wedding?

I'm about to confirm an escape wedding by putting a deposit down. The form asked me to put down the room reservation. If my guests and I start paying for everything now...flights, tickets and accomodations, what happens if we must cancel at the last minute? Do we get anything back? I'm just wondering if we are better off buying from a travel agent so that we could purchase trip insurance. I understand that the deposit is non refundable but what if there's a death or serious illness? Would I still have to pay for the remainder of the wedding and mk bridal photoshoot too? Maybe they'd let me postpone? I know it's a slim chance that anything will happen but we do have some ailing family members.

All those things have different cancellation policies (well, except tickets, which have no expiration if they haven't been activated). For an Escape event, the cancellation policy is...

If you need to cancel the event more than 60 days before, you will forfeit the
deposit. If you cancel from 60 to 31 days before, you will be charged 50% of the cost of your package and enhancements, including tax and gratuity on enhancements. If you cancel 30 to 0 days before, you will be charged 90% of those costs. Cancellations must be submitted to your Wedding Consultant in writing.

I understand that the deposit is non refundable but what if there's a death or serious illness?

They let you reschedule any time up to a year from the original date. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to add that you should definitely get trip insurance, if you are at all concerned about having to cancel. This should help with the non-wedding expenses of your trip (i.e. airfare, etc..)

Be aware, however, that trip insurance like anything else varies. It's VERY difficult to get some to pay out even for "covered" reasons. Read all the fine print!
