What history changing event

happened while you were in elementary school? What do you remember most that was significant to history.

When I was in 5th grade, the space shuttle exploded, while we all watched on TV :(

Martin Luther King and RFK assassinated and man landing on the moon

Splashdown of Apollo 11.

Awesome.:thumbsup2

The Berlin wall coming down was the first historic event i can remember being interested in.

good thread, but have you notice all the threads kind of feed off each other, you see somehting someone psoted and it makes you think of a thread, at least it does me

Yeah...I took this off your 8-12 hero thread....because I couldn't think of a hero at that age....lol

I don't remember anything from elementary school, but I remember when Reagan was shot. I was in highschool.

I do remember once in elementary school, I'm thinking I was around 7 (so around 1975), I came home and my mom told me that something important happened and to try and remember that day when I got older. I can't figure out what it was.

The earliest thing I remember from the 70's was in 77....I was 3 when Elvis died, and I remember it because my mom cried... ALOT!

yep and I started my "what makes a good teacher" thread off of Caradana response in the favorite subject in High School thread :rotfl:

All of the stuff above was after elementary school. I do remember the day Elvis died and the day of the Fire in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.

We're a bunch of theives with no minds of our own ;)

Or, we're all just so smart that we think beyond what the other person is thinking.. yeah, thats it :teacher:

The Challenger explosion. I was in the second grade and I remember it so clearly--they made an annoucement over the intercom while we were at school.

I was in elementary during Vietnam. I remember having Civil Air Raid drills where we went into the gym and put our coats over our heads. They should have explained things more clearly to us....as I was sure that planes from Vietnam were capable of flying directly to NY to bomb Charles A Upson Elementary school!

I was in 1st grade when Reagan was shot...6th grade when the Challenger exploded...I truly can't remember anything else. My world revolved around MTV back then.

I was born in 1960, so started school in 1965. I have very vague memories of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King being shot. I do remember watching news reports about the Vietnam war, the moon landing and Woodstock. My brother was at Woodstock so I guess I was more interested in that. I adored him and all his hippie friends :hippie:.

I also remember watching Laugh-In and The Smothers Brothers, and the best one of all, All In The Family. All ground breaking entertainment.
