What happens when you get the Blue Mickey at a ride?

I must admit that I'm nervous about potential issues for our upcoming August trip! What happens if my family of 5 is getting on a ride and one of us gets the Blue Mickey? Can they fix it right away? How long is the delay? Do they let you go on anyway? Do they pull you aside so you don't hold up others behind you? Just wanting to know what to expect.

Also, does anyone know if adding the park hopper is likely to mess up our existing fastpass reservations like what has happened to others when they add the dining plan, for example. Thanks!!

When we were there in December we had plenty of experience with the blue mickey at rides. It seems that EVERY one of the FP+ that I had pre-booked would not show up at the rides so we had lots of blue mickeys on our trip. All I had to do was pull out my cell phone and show them our itinerary on MDE app and the let us through. The only rides on which we saw a green mickey were the rides for which I had changed the FP+ that day (either at kiosks or through the app). As long as I could show the FP+ on our app we were fine. It did get to the point that before we got to the first scan point I had my phone out and explained to the CMs that this was happening on every ride.

Really depends upon the ride, the CM and the line.

First of all, don't expend energy worrying about it. Cross that bridge when you come to it. There is NOTHING you can do to predict a problem or not.

As PPer said, have the app pulled up and ready on your phone. I've been 3x w/mb and one time had lots of problem, one time some problems and another only 1 hiccup. Most likely the person w/blue Mickey WILL be pulled aside.

IF you have repeated problems, go to a FP+ HELP kiosk and get things reset.

I have only ever gotten a blue Mickey upon park entrance and it was because I hadn't properly placed the Mickey head on my band to the Mickey on the post. I've never gotten a blue Mickey on a ride…oh, yeah, I did….when I mixed up my two FP times, but that was my issue, not a tech issue. Don't worry! pixiedust:

Out of the several times we've been there with our MB's since they first started using them (we were in 3 test phases too), we've NEVER had a blue Mickey. Just make sure to place the Mickey head on your MB flat for at least 2-3 seconds.

The worst part about the MB's is that you have to take them off to get into the resorts as I can't twist my wrist enough to get it to read the band and open the gate. That's about the only gripe I have about the MB.

I was waived through since it was obivious I was with my family who had no problems. I got the blue mickey often the first couple of days. So often that my family just had me go last and my oldest would wait for me while I tried to get the green mickey head.

Then I bought a cover for my magic band and it got better. I think it was because I was sweating so much. The cover absorbed alot of it and the band worked better.

Okay I guess I haven't been doing my Disboards homework. What is a Blue Mickey? Is it something they've started doing with the advent of FP+? We haven't been to Disney since summer of 2012, before all these massive changes. :crazy2:

That's interesting. If sweating or moisture can effect the magic bands, there would be an increase of problems of non functioning bands during the summer for sure. Heat plus thunderstorms, bad combo. I wonder if this is the case?
So nice of Disney to have a cover for the MB available for an extra cost too....

After my third blue Mickey in a row, I always had my MDE open on my ipad mini when I approached the FP line. Sometimes I would have to wait for a cm to take a look at it, other times they waved me on.

You scan your band at the Mickey Head when entering the FP line, then it lights up. Green means go....your FP is valid and you proceed.....blue means you don't have a valid FP and then you prove you do, if you do.
