What happens when you cancel?

I know this is in the documentation somewhere but wondered if anyone had a quick answer. We have a trip planned starting a little over a week. My FIL is very ill and we are very likely to need to cancel or at least delay our trip. Since we need to take vacations during the school year I'm not sure how could manage to go again before summer.

What are my best options? I of course don't have trip insurance. Have a reservation for OKW using 2 different contracts.

Any help is appreciated.

Looking at the DVC website it's probably best to change the reservation than cancel.

Also better to change than to go and have to leave early in which case we forfeit all the points.

Somewhere I got the idea that the holding account was only good for a limited amount of time. Is it good for the current use year?

I would call MS and ask about it. Something happens within 30 days of the reservation if you cancel, can not remember what it is. This is one thing about DVC cancelling reservations can be a problem. If someone dies while you are on vacation they might accomodate you but someone being sick, well you can imagine how many people would try to pull something if members could get out of a reservation just by claiming someone is ill.

The points would go into a holding account and would have to be used by the end of your use year. Holding account points can only be reserved 60 days prior arrival.

Talk to member services about your situation, sometimes they can help out.
