Thinking of an October tent camping trip. IF a hurricane is predicted to pass over FW, what is the procedure for tent campers? How soon would tent campers be permitted back into FW & would the tent pads be dry enough to pitch a tent on?

Last year they moved everyone to resorts. I am not sure if everyone actually got a room or not, but I think they did. Many people left before the hurricane. The also moved all the motor homes and campers to the parking lots at the resorts.

DId they move everyone before the rain hit? It's not good to leave a wet tent packed for very long.

I have also heard of tent campers being moved to cabins or other resorts in severe thunderstorms when the campground is not actually evacuated.

Most of the tent pads (Coquina Sand) drain pretty well, and they will rake them and clean them up before letting folks back on and in between campers.

As the previous poster stated, the three hurricanes last year, Ft. Wilderness was totally evacuated of all guests including the cabins.

Yes, they moved them as soon as they knew it was coming. However, that doesn't mean there won't be rain before either. You never know what the weather down there is going to do. Well, I guess if they gave you a room, you could try to spread it out in there to dry somehow? I just know that they did try to get rooms for everyone and I think they were successful because it was September and not very crowded.
