What happens to one time use points if you change your reservation?

We bought a few points to complete a reservation but may switch resorts, leaving us a few left over. Easy enough but we are also waitlisted for a reservation that would require those points. We are within 30 days. Will those one time use points be available for the waitlist if it comes through?

As long as you don't need OTU points and haven't purchased them prior to the waitlist coming through. You should be able to use those points first and your own points second. Then you can bank them if you are still within the banking period.

I'm sorry, I dont understand your response. We needed them for a reservation and already bought them to secure that reservation. Now we are thinking of switching to a resort that will take less points. IF our waitlist comed through though we will need those points to secure the waitlist.

You bought them and they are yours to use. If you have points left over after the waitlist, you just need to make sure the MS used the OTU points first, plus any borrowed or banked points, then your current year points. Any current year points left over could be banked if you are not past your banking period.

I was trying to say that you cannot purchase OTU points to waitlist a reservation. But you already bought them to make an existing reservation. So you can use them on the waitlisted reservation when it comes through.

  • You won't be able to cancel or refund your purchase of one-time use Vacation Points, nor will you be able to transfer, bank, or borrow them.
  • In the event that your trip does not unfold as planned and your reservation must be canceled, be aware that one-time-use Vacation Points expire at the end of your Use Year
So, you can use them for the UY the reservation exists in only. If that reservation used some or your points and the OTU points, and the new reservation needs fewer points. The OTU points can still be used.

It gets into the specifics. The best case for you would be if you were also using more current UY points on that reservation, than the point difference. In that case, the refund would all be in current UY points, and those could be banked. If that is not the case, the "refund" will either be in OTU points, banked points, or borrowed points, all of which need to be used in that reservations UY.

Hope this helps.....
