What happens to my points if I have to cancel?

I think I know the answer to this, but would like make sure.

We are DVC members. We own at OKW and BLT and both have a June use year.

We have a trip planned over the Christmas school break with a week at OKW and a week at BLT.

I work in a school, so having that time off is not a problem. However, I am looking at switching jobs and I may not have the time at Christmas available.

For the trip, I am using some banked 2009 points, 2010 points and a few 2011 points.

What happens if I have to cancel the trip? Will all the points stay in the 2010 use year, or will they go back into their use year?

They will all stay in your 2010 UY and expire at the end of it. If you are still in your 2010 banking window you could bank some. You also want to cancel more than 31 days out to avoid them going into holding, which would only allow you to use them 60 days in advance.

Thanks Denise! That is what I thought. So, what would I be allowed to bank? The 2009 points that I banked into 2010 points and the 2010 points or just the 2010 points? Sorry to have so many questions. I have never had to cancel before so I am not really up on all the rules.

You can only bank points once. You could bank your 2010 points and would lose the 2009 banked points June 1, 2011.

Ok thanks! That makes me feel better that I can bank the 2010. Maybe we could do a short trip to use up the 2009 points.

I have a similar question. Since the 2011 points would be borrowed and now into 2010 can you bank them? Can you bank borrowed points? Or can you bank the 2010 points and then you would lose the 2011. I am just a little unsure on that scenario with the borrowing of points and cancelling. If someone could explain I would appreciate it! Thanks!

You can not bank borrowed points. 2011 UY borrowed points would need to be used in 2010 UY.

Once you borrow points, it is a final transaction and they expire at the end of the UY they were borrowed in to.

So 2011 points brought in to 2010 UY a reservation will expire, if not used, by the end of that UY.
