What happens to my points if I cancel a couple of nights?

Hello,

So I'm trying to understand my 2006 points and borrowed points from 2007, and what happens if I cancel two nights.

My current reservations are for 6 nights in November 2006. I booked the first 4 nights that were available at my home resort (BCV) with 157 points from 2006. That left me 9 points because I had 166 points this year. I waitlisted BCV for 2 more nights. In the meantime, at 7 months out, I called to reserve the 2 nights at another resort, which was SSR. I needed 72 points so I borrowed 63 from 2007.

A waitlist at BCV came through for one of the nights (#5), so another 4 points were borrowed from 2007. That means I have borrowed 67 points so far.

So as I wait for night #6 to clear the waitlist (I don't really want to move to SSR for one night!), I am wondering if it would be better to pay cash for two nights somewhere else and move. Moving for two nights isn't that bad. I'm a little nervous about the waitlist clearing for Thanksgiving night in a 2-bedroom villa at BCV, BWV or VWL.

My question is, if I cancel the last two nights, that means 67 of those points were borrowed from 2007 and 9 were from 2006. But all of my 166 '06 points were used up. Would MS ever put 67 '06 points back into '06 so that I can bank them into '07? Or would I be stuck having to use up those 67 points IN 2006 or else lose them because those last two nights used borrowed points and those would be the exact nights I am cancelling?

Sorry if there is an easier way to ask this question. I can't think of how. My brain is confused :confused3 !

Alternatively, I could try and pay cash for Thanksgiving night...and then I'd have 36 borrowed points to deal with instead...

HELP!

I believe once you borrow them, you have to use them in the use year they were borrowed into.....meaning in 2006.

Ask MS to do a point reallocation, using the borrowed points for your ressie first. You can then bank the remaining 2006 points into 2007. I have done this very thing in the past.

Which would be a cancellation and rebooking. This would work if any of those other nights are not on a wait list but would not otherwise. I'd pay cash for the one night at BCV. Make the reservation which can be cancelled if the waitlist comes through.

Well, I called MS and there are no cash ressies available for my last night (Thanksgiving night 11/23, of course) . So, paying cash is out. I guess I just have to wait and hope that someone who is trying to rent out the dates I wants, cancels?! Do a lot of people cancel their holiday plans at the last minute? We are about 3 months out now.

Here is another question. My first night is a Saturday for 61 points. Do members often stay somewhere else to avoid the high point cost for Saturday nights? We don't get into MCO until 9:10, so won't be at the resort until 11 probably. Would we be better off staying somewhere less expensive with our points that are worth, roughly, $610 if I chose to rent them? Those points are from Feb 2006 UY, so I could still bank them to 2007 if I cancelled by the end of October.

I need a course on planning my DVC vacation for 2008... :teeth:

Of course all this would also depend on your use year. Even if you get your points back by reallocation you can't bank if you've past your banking deadline. Might want to just pack up and spend that last night in a Red Roof, or somewhere else out of WDW. Rooms outside the park are not hard to find over Thanks Giving. Good Luck
