What happens to chalk art when it rains?

Please watch Mary Poppins ;) Actually just read an article today that the chalk art at Epcot isn't so prone to damgage.
 
We just returned yesterday, we saw some of the chalk art on Thursday as the Artists were drawing. It poured Sunday morning for a few hours. When we returned yesterday the art was still in OK condition. There were a couple of the drawings that were barely visable but most of them held up reasonably we
 

Once the art is complete they generally cover it with a clear coat of spray paint that will help it last longer than normal.
 
I was there Sunday morning. It looked pretty good considering the rain. As someone stated I am sure it's sprayed with something once it's completed to help preserve it. I know they did that at the local chalk festival in our city.
 
Thanks for the replies. Mary Poppins was what I pictured! I would be so sad to see the beautiful artwork ruined by rain.
