What Happens to Borrowed Points?

I had borrowed points from my 2025 use year that were returned to my 2024 use year. Can I still use them for a 2025 use year trip as long as I book the trip in 2024 or do I actually have to travel on those points in 2024 to prevent losing them?

You need to use them as part of a reservation that's within the 12 months of your 2024 use year. It's a risk of borrowing. Once the first day of your 2025 use year arrives, you'd lose those borrowed points.

Banked and borrowed points are “stuck” in the UY they’re moved to. Occasionally MS will un-stick them as a one-time exception, but that can’t be counted on.

If keeping those borrowed points in 2024 mean you have extra actual 2024 points, you could bank the 2024 points to 2025 to use in the new reservation.

If you still have an upcoming reservation in your 2024 use year that uses 2024 points, and you are still in your 2024 banking window, use the DVC website to "modify" the reservation, but don;t actually change anything. It will use the borrowed points first, then you can bank any remaining 2024 points. I just did that earlier this month, when I had to cancel a September trip. I have a June use year. It reallocated the borrowed points to my February trip, and allowed me to bank the saved 2024 points.

Don’t cancel. Just hit modify and go through the motions until you book it again. It will pick up restricted points.

You have to go all the way to the end in order to work.

All points use is based on date of stay and applicable use year. When you book isn’t a factor.
