What Happens in 2042 and 2057?

Yes, I think you are right.
OKW could use some up-
dating.
It is my least favorite resort.

I own there and it is my favorite - at least it was until right before they did the renovations. We'll see in January when we return.

OKW is themed after Key West. It's not themed after the W Hotel on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

It is being updated though we'll have to see how it turns out. However, I think much of what people do or don't likely about OKW is based on it's location, layout and amenities or lack of. Little or nothing can be done in those areas.

Obviously, but then what. What was convert? I believe it was rumored to be about 30%. Assume with ROFR and other changes over time it move up to 50% of the points by late in the game for the 2042 ending. DVD and Disney are still stuck what what to do with the resort and it's rooms. Certainly they have a lot of potential options but all of them are fraught with problems.

If they want to close off part of the resort they have the issue that each and every building is going to have owners other than Disney. They could potentially swap out deeds to consolidate and close off part of the resort but I see this as legally difficult to almost impossible. If they could narrow it down they could doze part of it, use it for CM housing, etc.

They could try to rent the additional rooms but they can't successfully rent them all now much less the extras at the time. They could do condo's or long term leases but that doesn't fit into Disney's normal approach though there's a lot of time for evolution.

One thing I know is that I wouldn't want to be a dues paying member in 2043 if they don't find away to get all resorts and most members to extend.

I think the initial plan would be more like demolishing and rebuilding each building and unit. While that owners unit might be gone initially, it is coming back in the new buiding and the other unsold units could be sold with new contracts and a new extension offered to existing members, if they decline they will just have it expire and resell it with a new ending date on the contracts. They could spend several years taking buildings down one or two at a time and rebuilding them back as a new resort.

But, as you have already speculated, they will do what is the best business decision at the time....regardless of what they think now. Whatever they do, I am sure they will find a way to do it and make the owners at the time feel they are getting a deal (deed swaps at new resorts, etc).

I try not to concern myself too much about what they are going to do with DVC in 30-40 years. Considering WDW itself is only about 40 yrs old, and DVC is only 20, and how much it has all changed in that time, who know what the timeshare and resort landscape, or the WDW resort as a whole, may look like in another 30-40 years. Heck, if Al Gore is right, WDW may be under water or have oceanfront property by that time.....
