What happens if thunderstorms at Discovery Cove

First ever visit this year to DC despite it being our 10th trip to Orlando. What happens if thunderstorms before you have had your dolphin swim, or even worse, bad weather all day. An expensive day so assume there is something in place to deal with these events.

It's been quite a few years since we have been to DC but we were told that if weather stopped us from being able to swim with the dolphins, we would either be refunded or rescheduled!

The day keeps going unless lightening keeps you out of the water.

We have done DC in under 5 degrees C(Xmas- new year 2000 - brrr) and then a second time in rain so hard that it was painful to keep eyes open (july). - The video & photos were so dark and blurry that I cant even make out my own kids. Our 3rd attempt was again over an Xmas - new year trip (2009) -once again the temps were very low near zero and my DD had been very ill so we went along and explained the situation the evening before we were due to visit and they very kindly refunded our tickets. - (moral of the story - don't go when we plan to be there )

We had a 3.30 swim and it started thundering and lightning at 3.10, we went to watch the presentation and the heavens opened. We were given refreshments and told that as soon as the storm had passed we could do the swim. We finally got in and after about 5 minutes the storm came back so we were taken out, this happened a couple of times. It made for a better experience for us as we were able to interact with 3 different dolphins and we had a longer swim than we should have had. They did tell us if we couldn't swim that day, it would be re-scheduled.

When we went it was lucky our swim time was before the thunder storm started not only were the dolphin swims off but because of the lightening they took everyone out of the water.
Weather can't be helped but they do try and get those that were disrupted sorted out so they don't miss out.

If your booking is cancelled by us due to poor weather we always try and fulfill your reservation during your holiday where possible. Subject to availability. You are entitled to make 1 date change free of charge before your booked Discovery Cove date if your plans do change. Again this is subject to availability.
