What Happens if the Price of a Disney Cruise Drops?

I understand that this does not normally happen but I'm thinking ahead. (OK, and wishful dreaming!!)

We currently have a dummy date booked and hope to apply it to an Eastern Caribbean cruise early in 2017.

The word on the street is that when the Oasis of the Seas moves to Port Canaveral that prices for DCL might be driven down.

If this happens, I'm wondering what options might be there for people who already have a booking? Will there be an option to take advantage of the lower prices if they're lower than booked? We're planning on moving our dummy date on opening day to secure the lowest price so I'm guessing they won't go lower than that but if they do, would I be able to take advantage of the price drop?

Cancel and rebook, that'd be it. As long as you're not past the pay in full date, when cancellation penalties kick in.

If "regular" cruise fare decreases, you simply contact DCL (or have your TA do it) and request the lower fare. You are correct this is rare.

DCL is more likely to offer specials -- *GT, FLR, MTO, etc. -- which have specific rules and generally require a "new booking" so you would have to cancel (incurring any penalty) and rebook to take advantage of these rates.

Enjoy your cruise!

Doubtful you will see any price drops due to Oasis moving to PC. Expectations are that Oasis will command premium prices during its first season in PC, which will probably drive people to Disney and other lines. So, if anything, you may see price increases:(

Pigs fly! jk by the way, sometimes they credit you if it involves port fees I think

Correct, changes in port fees or taxes will automatically be refunded, no need to request.

Enjoy your cruise!

they ALWAYS credit you port fees if they drop. It's happened to us on over 50% of our cruises.

I kind of agree with you that once OASIS gets to Port Canaveral Disney might actually have some competition. The Disney ships and the Oasis class ships are the destination and and of themselves. I've said it once and I'll say it again I cannot wait for the Oasis to get to Port Canaveral...I really think they will still be cheaper than Disney and I enjoyed my experience enough of the Allure to want to go again...and with the ship only being 45 minutes away it will be much better than driving to Ft. Lauderdale. There are many things that they do well and enjoyed.

But in the end we will never know what will happen with the prices until the prices are announced.

I can't wait for the Oasis to be at PC too! Especially seeing the new DCL prices. It may work against us. It might drive the Oasis prices up to the same level as DCL :scared:
Anyway, with the new way of being able to book a placeholder booking for $200 you should be able to just secure your OBB benefits without having to have a dummy date that you will have to move. I never have heard of a price drop though. Maybe a GTY rate or a new FL or military rate released but that is about it.

I feel like they can't go to crazy with prices on the Oasis. It is the oldest Oasis class ship and the new Harmony will be coming to Ft. Lauderdale....so I feel like they will have to keep that in mind. It Oasis is more than Harmony I'll just drive to Ft. Lauderdale and go on the Harmony.

I wonder where the Enchantment of the Seas is going. They have said it is being replaced by the Oasis but I can't find anywhere where it says it is moving to.

I'm not sure where it is moving to but they are bring up another ship that is in the same class as the enchantment to keep doing the 3 and 4 night routes. There are a lot of locals that take the 3 night just for the weekend...b/c it leaves on Friday and gets back early enough on Monday that you could still go to work.

I've read that Rhapsody will be replacing Enchantment. We are very excited to be try out the Allure next May.

Yes...Rhapsody.....that is correct. We did the Allure in September 2014.....we enjoyed it. I really liked all of the dining options available.

Just to answer the OPs question...if a price drop occurs, DCL will not automatically refund the price difference, that has to be monitored by either yourself or your TA.

But port fees and taxes will automatically adjust.

Also so the OP know there are sites out there where she can create an alert for the cruise so she doesn't have to actually check the price everyday. I have used one with great success and was able to save some money.

Does anyone know if this has ever happened?

There are two 2015 summer sailings on the Fantasy where there has been a price drop. I don't have the dates in front of me, but if you look on cruise fish you can find it.

It used to happen more often but since DCL started the last minute discounted cruise fare like *IGT, *OGT and *VGT DCL has not had to lower regular cruise fare. And speaking of GT rates....don't expect to receive any refund if you have a cruise booked and then DCL releases those *GT rates. Those are for new bookings only and the lower price can't be applied to an existing reservation.
