Back in February 2001 while at WDW I heard of a Disney Time Share. I wasn't really interested in timeshares but the Disney part sparked my interest.

I later found this site and started reading all the post that explained the DVC system, asked a lot of questions and decided to buy a year later.

With that said I can not believe the difference or how this thread has changed. It seems to be a lot less informative and a lot more
off the wall post.

If I were looking for information on DVC and found these threads today I doubt very much with the type of post that are out there recently that I would ever make the investment I made.

I do try to check the post every couple days to see if there is anything new coming but most of the posts lately are the BASHING and HOLD MY HAND type posts.
Not very informative or mature ( for lack of a better term)

Yes, this is just my humble opinion.

The site is only as good as what is posted. I'm not sure that I've seen a lot of bashing going on. I agree that there are a lot of posts related to resales and ROFR that may not be of interest to some people.

Prospective buyers are still asking the same kinds of questions that you probably asked and getting just as informative responses. In between answering questions from new-bees we occasionally discuss ( and debate ) other things as well. Hearing differing opinions regarding DVC would seem to be a good thing for someone considering buying, IMO. If you don't care for a particular thread topic, do as I do... skip it.

I started lurking then posting back in 2001 as well and my observation is that discussion of some topics that were off limits back then are now allowed. A while back any mention of room occupancy got locked. Now it has it own thread for discussion.

Another big change is a lot more posts from a lot more informed owners. The more informed owners there are, the more room for discussion there is as opposed to just answering questions.

The final difference IMHO is that back in 2001 there was OKW, BWV and Disney was selling VWL. Now with VWL sold out, BCV sold out and SSR selling fast, there seems to be a lot more competition (mine is better, I would never stay there attitude) between some owners of the different properties.

Just my opinion too but I have seen a change. I'll bet those that have been around since 1999 have seen even more.

Doc is no longer a moderator - no that is mean - the others moderators do a great job!!!

I think some of older ones quit posting - I haven't seem a post from Rich in a while.

the details are still here - but so are alot of other posts - I think it adds. but everyone is allowed their own opinions.

As a newbie, I probably shouldn't even respond to this as I've been responsible for asking a lot of inane questions as well as being part of the ROFR process and getting some hand-holding. But with the resale market as it is, and some of us completely new to the process, the questions and concerns are certainly going to be posted and valid as I see it.

My humble opinion is that I find, for the most part, that the folks on this particular board are generous with info and advice, informative and overall very friendly. Are they opinionated? Sure...but that adds to my learning process since I can glean so much from their debates.

And I may be new to the Dis...But I'm not new to forums and posting. While forums are supposed to be informative, I also feel that they are supposed to be fun as well. The moderators do a great job of keeping things clean and generally friendly. I've seen a whole lot worse in other places. Dis seems to keep the environment very appropriate. But part of this is comaraderie and sharing a love for something very special....Disney! So, for me, reading the fun posts and learning make this a pleasurable experience. If I am looking for specific information, and don't feel like wading through the posts, the search engine works great.

Just my 2 cents as a relative newbie here ;).

All someone has to do is ask and they are deluged with information. But the attraction of the DIS is the people. If all you want is DVC information Disney has plenty of booklets and videos and all we would need here, if anything, would be the FAQ. Sure, at times themes repeat but that's because new people are asking the questions and people that may have originally been asking the same questions are now answering them. All of us have had the same concerns as we thought about joining - is it worth the money, DVC or resale, will I pass ROFR, which resort is best for me, when can I make my reservation, etc. It is nice to hear other people's rationale for joining (or not) and sharing expieriences that can help others enjoy their trips more. Am I more interseted in some topics than others? -You bet. Do some threads get monotonous? Absolutely. Does everyone have the same concerns and interests as I? No - but that's what makes life intersting.

Really, interesting. I see the exact opposite. These stupid boards ;) just made me spend $11500. I started reading these boards about a month ago, now I'm waiting for my resale to go through, go figure. Oh, and I haven't even been to WDW before(but I am a Disneyland freak :earseek: and AP holder).

I have to say that I have learned so much from this board. The folks here are very generous with their knowledge and time. I am happy that I found all of you!

pat-rick: I'm sorry, did I miss something? What information does this thread have about DVC? :teeth:

Not much information...off the wall posts...not informative or mature...WHO'S bashing?????!!!!!!!

IMHO...this board was a HUGE influence in why I bought. I have VERY good acquaintances who I really hope I get to meet in Dec, and in all the years to come!!! I come here for the "family" of people who are as DVC nuts as I am, and who offer support. That is one of the BEST things about the computer age, if you ask me!!! I'm sorry if the "touchy feely" bugs you. If you need info...you can find it!!!

I hate to say this....but, with 170 posts in three years...and, the way you worded your post (complaining about bashing, as you do just that)...I smell a troll!!!

I think that came about because the debate board was closed down.

I don't think there is as much resort bashing as there used to be. I joined this board and DVC around the same time (09/99) and back then it was OKW vs Boardwalk bashing right and left.

Seriously. because there is such a sense of "family" within the DVC Board, maybe sometime in the future it can be split into two parts: one information only, the other community. (Yes, I know there's already a Community Board, but I don't care what someone's favorite cheese is or whether or not their spouse is having an affair...I want "fluff" pertaining to DVC.) :D

calypso - I think pat-rick means board, as in the DVC board in general, not this particular thread. (Confused me at first too).

FYI - Been here since April. Love this board! Very confident that I know what to do for most circumstances now! Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the clarification wtpclc (and CRobin). I just had to respond as I got a little chuckle from this thread. My initial thoughts were: if you think the board has gone down-hill, why do you keep coming back? But I know the answer...it's all part of the Disney magic!!!

I think this board has a lot of ebb and flow to it. If you "stop by" at any given point in time, you might think that all the posts are a certain flavor because one new thread might spin off three or four more.

Topics get hot and then cool off. New resort openings cause a lot of messaging about those resorts from those who are sharing the new information and those who like to know about anything new at DVC. The last two resorts are SSR and BCV....think we see a disproportionate number of posts about them?

Like HBC, I found this board in 2001 and it was invaluable in providing information to me. I don't see any less information sharing now than I did then.

As for the "hand holding" term....well, I think that's just mean. Sure, some people get nervous about such a large investment, and if people offer support then that's a bad thing? And DVC means a lot to many people, so is it bad to share their news with others?

I think the board is pretty much the same. Frankly, I see much less arguing and bashing than we did three years ago.

Another thing to remember is newbies can come to this board with very little knowledge of even how the board works. When I first came, I asked questions that had been posted probably a million times. I had no idea, though that you could do a search.

I appreciate the fact that people answer the easier questions instead of always just telling you to do a search.

FWIW, I wouldn't read too much into this. Due to various upgrades/migrations, the number of posts have been reset in the past. I know of at least two occassions when my number of posts went back to zero. People could look at me and say he's been a member since 1999 but only has 390 posts. But in all actuality I have over 1000.

This is the best of the DisBoard forums because of it's real sense of community. If you want to be a part, join DVC. It's more than a "timeshare." If you don't get it so what?

If you want to know something about DVC you can find it here -- EASILY.
