What happened to the "romance" in REAS?

Hi - my name is Diane and I'm whining, petty and selfish (just setting the ground rules here!)

It's our 30th wedding anniversary this year and as we have a 12yo DD, we couldn't think of anything better to celebrate than a 4th DCL cruise coz we can have the "family" thing going on but there's also the opportunity of a having an extra special "just you and me and we made it this far" kinda thing!

I looked on the DCL website and found the REAS (surprisingly without the aid of the DISboard!), thought how great it would be as a surprise for DH and booked it .

(I have to say here that it took us 3 cruises before we even tried Palo (no issues with the "ressie rush" got what I wanted), don't really care what rotation we have coz they're all great and have never even looked into the the Vista Spa)

Then I started to read about the REAS here and how popular it had become coz you could make Palo/Spa ressies in advance, request your rotation, courtesy brunch/high tea ressies, etc. So I ask the question - did anyone else book the REAS for the ROMANCE?

Sorry for the rant - as I said at the start I'm whining, petty and selfish (after all, I've been married to the same guy for 30 years!)

Luy ya, mean it
Diane!

Diane!
Yes I did - for our anniversary (which is in June, so the "gift" will be to tell DH about it). It was after booking it I learned about the fact we can request our dining rotation, etc. which to me was just a great extra perk.

Yes, Diane. Happy 30th wedding anniversary!

I wanted to 'surprise' my husband for our 15th wedding anniversary w/the REAS package. Only thing is, it had to appear on our final DCL statement so I ended up telling him about it as he was prepared to do the 'ressie rush,' and now he can relax!

Oh well, he knows, and we're still looking forward to a wonderful, romantic:hug:  time!

(9 year-old DD is too! She's going to think the rose petals are 'awesome'!)

I plan to, since this cruise will be Laurie and my honeymoon! :groom: :bride:

It doesn't matter what it costs or what is involved, as long as it adds to the Magic :wizard: and starts the marriage off right (we have kids to make, ya know! )

Ivanova - our anniversary is in June also - June 14th and we're cruising August 14th but what's 2 months between spouses! DH knows about the cruise (after all, he paid for it!) but not the REAS - that's my gift to give! Hope you enjoy your cruise as much as I intend to enjoy mine!

Diane

I would love to book this for our upcoming cruise, but my husband just wouldn't "get it"! What can I say, he is clueless when it comes to romance!!! Even when he gave me my engagement ring (25 years ago), he held out the box and said "Look what I bought." Later, it dawned on me that he never actually proposed. We still joke around about that to this day!

When we got our cruise documents, I left out the booklet that showed the baskets and stuff that you can order for your room as a hint, but I'm fairly sure he never looked at it. Yesterday, I ordered 2 tote bags full of stuff from The Perfect Gift for our two daughters' stateroom. And when I told him about it and all the other great stuff they have, well, let's just say it went in one ear and out the other.

So to all of you that have husband that will do the romantic stuff with you, I hope you appreciate what you have. Don't get me wrong, my husband has lots of other wonderful qualities (or I wouldn't have stayed married to him for so long), but I would love to do something like the REAS and have him "get it"!

So, Tartan Fan, I'm whining right here with you!

Not sure DH will "get it" either but I just went ahead and did it anyway! We're talking about a man who gave me a bread maker for Christmas a coupla years ago!

But even if he doesn't "get it", I will and that's what counts. It's my anniversary too! (remember whining, petty and selfish!).

Tartanfan~ I just hope your rose petals don't get delivered in a bag, with a wimpy towel snake! LOL!!! Did you see the picture on the other thread? It's too funny! I hope your stateroom steward "Get's it"!!! LOL!

I booked the REAS for our first cruise (leaving in one week for the June 5 Western!). I let dh know about it, and he thought it was 'cool'. Our cruise leaves on our 11th anniversary and even though 9 year-old ds will be with us, I plan on putting the Romance in the REAS. We don't have a regular babysitter at home, and I figure that dh and myself will have more 'alone' time on the cruise than we've had for the last 9 years. DS is so excited about spending a lot of time in Oceaneers Lab, and so are we...

Okay, I am sorry to ask; however, what exactly do you get with the REAS package and how much does it cost?

Thank you.
It costs $299 and you add the package by contacting your travel agent (or DCL if you booked directly with them). You can only add it to 2004 cruises right now ... the ability to add it to 2005 cruises will be sometime around Nov or Dec of this year (or so Debbie told me) :teeth:

What you get: dinner ressie at Palo (and the $10 per person fee is included in the package price), massage for two at the spa, gift basket upon arrival, and romantic turn down service on your Palo night, and champagne breakfast in bed on the morning of your choice.

Ivanova:

Thank you for the information. Would you be able to pre-book brunch at Palos instead of dinner? We only want the brunch.

Also, the champagne breakfast sounds wonderful; however, I do not see it happening since we will be with then DD6 & DS5. Yes, I know we could have them in the clubs, but we are really hoping they want to spend alot of time with us instead.

I'm planning to do the REAS with my DH on our cruise in August and DS9 will be along with us. I figure he'll be in the club for the Palo night anyway (that's when the rose petal strewn turndown is, right? ;)). Then we'll just order enough breakfast for all of us the next morning and we can share. Does this sound logical to those who have done the REAS before?

Some posters have mentioned the idea of ordering the Champagne brunch and sharing the strawberries with their kids. They then take the champagne to Palos and trade it for a chilled bottle.

You could still get the champagne, and use it at Palos (dinner probably works best, though) or share with your tablemates.

Debbie can NOT book the brunch as part of the REAS on the Wonder .. she CAN if you will be on the Magic. The Palo brunch on the Wonder apparently is horrendously limited so she's not able to book ANY ressies for that in advance, just the dinner (on the Wonder).

So I ask the question - did anyone else book the REAS for the ROMANCE?

Yes! I did! My BF and I are going on
our first cruise in November! His birthday
is the day we disembark... thought it
would be fun to do together... I just hinted
to him the other night that I had this
planned and he is looking forward to it...
even tho he is leary of having to strip
infront of a stranger for a massage (even
with the white sheet they give you!)

I thought it would be cool to do when I
first heard about the package on the
DCL site, then I saw the spa clip on
the travel channel special... that
got me hooked!

Heather,

Point out to him he won't be disrobing IN FRONT OF a stranger. They leave the room while you undress and get under the sheet. If he's still leary about it he can leave on shorts or undergarments, a lot of people do that too. :teeth:

I am planning to add the REAS to our trip in January on the Magic. We did it our last trip and it was great . Last time I kept joking that I needed a Romantic Escape from Son package, as we couldn't seem to get our son to leave the cabin without us. But this time its just the two of us so plenty of time for the romance part. I can't wait until they open up our date. Plus, I found out our favorite server at Palo will be working our cruise. Can't wait to say hi and get myself a couple of souffles. (yeah, that's right- I'm getting two at once. And I'm taking a sweet pizza to go. This is going to be MY cruise of a lifetime.:p )

Yes, I booked it for the romance on our May 8th cruise. And for you shy guys out there this was my first massage and I just wore my bathing suit. - Mike
