I know Toontown closed to make room for the MK expansion project. But I am curious as to what physically became of Mickey and Minnies houses. Have they been moved? I read a rumor that they were demolished. Just curious. I am proud to own a stool made out of a barrel that was in Mickeys house sitting in my living room.

You would think they would scoop them up and put them in a backlot under a tarp somewhere.

I guess they'd make nice archival things, but if they're just going to be in a backlot under a tarp, why keep them? They were both definitely showing their age and would need renovation to re-open. So if WDW ever decides to give Mickey and Minnie vacation homes, they'd pretty much have to rebuild them anyway.

:earsboy:

They were foreclosed in the housing crisis. Disney quit paying the mortgage (they were under water and decided to let them go). Dreamfinder picked them up for a song at the resulting auction, and they've been moved to an undisclosed location (presumably he rents them out to the Vice President during times of crisis).

:( So sad. It's a tradition to take a picture in Minnie's gazebo every time we go. Now I'll have to come up with a new photo op.

Yep, they're gone! A guy I graduated both high school and college with was the Safety guy over the job.... I still remember when he posted on Facebook that Mickey and Minnie are homeless now! I was quite surprised myself...

Theyre not homeless- those were their summer homes. Their permanent residence is at Disneyland

Just another sign of the economy :rotfl2:

I have said it before, but I really think Mickey and Minnie have moved over to Golden Oaks. Much nicer houses and without people trapsing through the house all day.

WAIT A MINUTE !

how do we know the houses weren't bulldozed, removed from site and reassembled somewhere? :confused3

I'm not going to look for it but there is a Youtube video.

It was taken as the train stopped for water at the closed station. At the time there was not a permanent construction wall up yet just a mesh screen.

Yep, they're demolished.

Yellow Shoes, Disney's internal advertising agency and one of the creative departments, salvaged some pieces of Minnie's house to mount on plaques and present to recipients of the Earmarked Award in 2011.

I am so sad by this... Loved those houses!

I have take a pic with my kids in front of the toontown sign every time we went. It was so great to see how they had grown in each picture.

i would think that they could have maybe parted the houses out and sold the pieces and made a profit. I would not be against having some of mickeys "knick knacks" as conversation pieces in my living room:)
