What Happened to MGM

This is a park you really need to plan out ahead of time....if you don't, you will wander around aimlessly & get nowhere fast.....if your kids are far apart in age, it is also difficult, because there are really baby-ish things & really adult things here.....this park is VERY HOT too....not much shade.....we roasted last year & ended up lucking out & eating at 50's, which we loved! So, sit down the night before with a map & look at times of shows, etc....the atmosphere can't be beat!

I went to MGM for the first time Christmas 2000 and it was my favorite park. In July 2003 it was still my favorite, but this summer it didn't excite me as much. I still enjoyed Beauty and Beast, RnR, ToT, Fantasmic and Millionaire, but I just don't think it has the staying power of MK and Epcot. I didn't notice big changes, it was more like been there done that. I will say that I loved watching my small children enjoy the parade, Disney Playhouse, Little Mermaid and the Honey I Shrunk... Play area.

MGM is definitely a must do park for me--just for the two thrill rides--RnR and ToT, but I just have to remember to keep things in perspective. I do wish they had better food offerings. I can't afford Brown Derby, and Sci-Fi and Prime Time don't impress me much.

We first went to MGM in 1996 and looking back, not much has really changed. Yes RnR and WWTBAM were added (good) but Hunchback and Doug were deleted without replacement (bad). Muppets, Star Tours, Little Mermaid, Backstage Tour, Indiana Jones, Drew Carey, and the Great Movie Ride (w/exception of movie at the end) are exactly the same as they were in 1996. Some of you will say that all the parks are like this but MGM is different, the things mentioned above are shows not rides (ST is both) like SM or BTMRR. MGM needs to stay somewhat current with the latest movies but they haven't done that. Going to MGM for me is like watching endless re-runs. Do I like the shows, without a doubt. Do they excite me anymore, not really. Will we watch them again this year - sure but not for long. Universal Studios seems to do a much better job of staying current.

This has been my feeling, too. I used to love MGM when it had Superstar TV, Monster sound show, the original animation tour, Hunchback, & the wonderful Sorcery in the Sky fireworks. DW likes RNR & TOT, but I can't do either one. There's just not much left there that I enjoy anymore. Hoping they will find some other good stage shows in the near future.

Our family loves MGM!!!

My husband can ride thirll rides and my kids LOVE the shows.

If you have young kids like me - this is the best park - there is the Playhouse Disney show, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Muppets, Indiana Jones, the Animation Tour, the Backlot Tour, Great Movie ride and in my opinion one of the best Parades!!

Hunchback was not a popular movie with younger kids and Disney probably saw low attendance at this show. I have never been to it where it was crowded and listened to the kids (at the time my niece and nephew) beg to leave! My 3 year and my sister's 5 year old have never even seen the movie. while the show may have been excellent - the story did not entertain youger children (IMO) and Doug has also waned in popularity and newer shows are taking its place!

This is the park our kids beg to go back to!

And on the other hand - we only enjoy the Lion King show at AK - and hardly ever spend any time there - although the last time I went on the safari there were NO animals out - but that was also the year it opened and we plan on giving it another shot this year!

I guess each park really appeals differently to every family!!!!!!!

Half day is about right for me. Hunchback was a high quality show. Maybe they should replace it with the Aladdin show from DLR.:earsboy:

AGREED! One of our friends is Jasmine in that show and she used to star in Miss Saigon. Totally the closest thing to a Broadway style show you can get on Disney property!!

See now I love MGM, and I like it more and more each visit! lol!

I really do, I love the rides...TOT and RNR make it worth it for me alone, but I love muppets and Little Mermaid. Aside Epcot I think it has the best restaraunts IN a park. I love the ambience just walking around and taking in the decor, the "HOLLYWOOD" feel. I agree they should try and stay current, but I do love it how it is as well...and I know whatever they take away I would miss...except for Sounds Dangerous!!! This is hands down the worst ride in all of central florida!! Turn off the light and put on these headphones (oooohhhh, aaaahhhhhh)

I like it but it can be done in a short period of time.

I mean - I dont ride TOT or RnC - so that elimiates long waits.

I like Star Tours, The Great Movie Ride, Muppets, and WWTBAM!

Other than those attractions it is not that great. The only reason that park stays packed is because half the people have made Fantasmic Dinner reservations and they are waiting for them. If it was not for that show - that park would be a ghost town at 6PM!
