What Happened to Manners and Common Sense?

I had the pleasure over my lunch today, of listening to a young group of american female soldiers recant their evening last night. It included alot of vulgar language and a detailed account of how one of the group was asked to leave as she was mistaken for a hooker because of the way she was dressed and behaving. Evidently, she thought it was funny to flash her ****s to the drunken crowd. I was on the opposite side of the room and could very clearly hear every word as could every one else in the restaurant. It was all I could do not to puke right then and there. As I left, I walked by them I politely told her that I could understand the confusion as not only do you look like a hooker but once you open up your mouth it is pretty evident that you are working girl. Her friends thought it was funny, and all I can think is that her parents must be so proud! Clearly, a poor reflection of the US military, also!

OMG, I am both appalled and :rotfl2: at the same time.

It use to pain me to see fellow female soldiers behaving in a undesirable or drunken manner, especially while in uniform. At least when dressed in civies it was hard to tell who was military and who was not unless stationed overseas.

And anyone who thinks that teenagers didn't do something comparable 25 years ago, 35 years ago, 45 years ago, etc., is deluding themselves! :rotfl: Only the contexts and tactics have changed ... the strategy has been consistent as long as any of us have been alive.

??

I NEVER did any of that as a teen!!

heheheheheh:rolleyes1

Well, my first thought when reading the OP's post was "and after the ride it was her best friend's turn to chose Truth or Dare."

They're teenagers. They do stupid stuff.

Agreed.

I bet it was a dare.

Or she had a bluetooth ear-thingie in (known as a "cricket" in my house b/c it looks like you have a large bug crawling into your brain) and wasn't talking to you at all.

The ringleader in our HS group, oh man...she used to encourage us to play a game where we first whispered, then said, the yelled, then screeched, a certain word for "boy parts" at each other. The more public place the better. I believe she tried to get us to play it, whispering only, at a St Patricks Day Catholic Mass we all went to once...:headache: It was funny in a car, but in public it always embarrassed me, but several of my HS friends had absolutely no modesty or sense of propriety at all. So this is not new at all....

Oh and I have pictures of my mom and her HS friends, all in black and white, dressed strangely, smoking their cigarettes (mom got hooked with her first cig at the age of 15), posing in goofy ways...those pix are from the 50s...I bet they said odd things as well!

I'm in the "she did it to get a reaction out of you" Camp.

I gotta say that I am impressed that you didn't react as I am the type who, if I feel so inclined, will respond with a comment that usually leaves the offending party utterly embarrassed in front of their friends. Bravo to you!:thumbsup2

I was working at Worlds of Fun tonight when I was asked the most unbelievable question by a teenager. I was working at unload, and part of my job there is helping guests into the car and then checking their lapbars and seatbelts.

I had just finished checking a seatbelt on a girl who could have been no older than 14 when she looked at me and asked, "Are you sexually active?" :scared1: Once I restarted my brain and picked my jaw off the floor, I told her, "Excuse me, that is not an appropriate question." She answered in a completely nonchalant way, "Oh, I know."

I have never met or seen this girl before. At what point did she think it could possibly be okay to ask a complete stranger a question like that. I remember being 14, we were not exactly the most logical creatures on the planet, but we never would have dreamed of asking a perfect stranger a question like that. Whatever happened to manners or good old fashioned common sense?

Yikes! People are getting more and more weird!:sad2:

Sounds like a dare to me

My first thought was "did her friend hand her 10 bucks when you left?"

I loved the show "Ed" where they'd constantly dare each other to do crazy stuff - adults who never outgrew their high school antics.

After your further explanation, my thought is that she's not the type to require a $10 dare to be outrageous.

She sounds like this one girl I know at my high school. Totally stereotypical cheerleader or she's faking it. Either way, I could so picture her doing that

Just remember, not all teens are complete morons.

I'm kind of chuckling that this thread got dragged up. I saw the title and was shocked I had started it! LOL. That's the thing about working with the public, you never know what is going to come out of people's mouths. Our season started back up last weekend, so I'm sure I'll hear/see more outrageous things this year. (I've already had security escrot one group from my ride.)

She was either trying to look cool at your expense or get a reaction. In that situation I would have turned it back on her.

Something like "Yes, and don't worry, if you grow out of being ugly you might get some too". Of course that is the DIS friendly version.

About 8 years ago I was subbing at the high school and a girl came up to me in class and ask if I " sucked ????" I told her it was not appropriate to ask that. Had a conversation with the principal after school and she was suspened for a few days. I'm sure my mouth hit the floor but I did keep my cool.

Oh, don't worry about it. She's 14, for crying out loud. NO maturity and NO common sense.
