What happened to Fantasmic's fire-breathing dragon?

I asked in my trip report, but I'm curious about the dragon? Did Malificient replace it because of her big movie? Or were there other considerations? Anyone know why they got rid of the awesome dragon?

A CM told me that sometimes elements will not happen in F! due to weather conditions. We were there on Saturday and the 10:45 show was cancelled due to rain for the CM safety. Kinda a bummer since we did the BB F! package...but it WAS wet.

We were there last week. The dragon was there on some nights, but not on Friday first show when we actually sat down to see the whole thing. Quite a disappointment!
But their fastpass system worked great!

I agree with mom2rtk and tygersclaw that the fire-breathing dragon was probably not used because of weather or technical difficulties. The dragon was part of the show in December when I saw it and if they removed the dragon, that would be a pretty significant change and it would have been reported on one of the many Disney blog sites by now.

We were there this weekend and caught the Friday night show, No dragon, and the first show on Saturday, Dragon appeared. The rain started as we were watching the fireworks so we headed out.

So I agree, there are technical issues and weather issues that will prevent some elements of the show (especially the Dragon) from appearing, but it should appear most nights.

On the night that we had gone last month, it was a nice night, and the dragon was in the show.

It was interesting, because instead of the dragon, Maleficient was raised WAY up into the air. She did a nice job of writhing around with her big green light ball of a scepter, but it was just no dragon. Ah well, next time. Glad to hear its not totally out of the show at least.

I agree, technical difficulties. There is a reason the dragon is referred to as "Murphy".

Awww, bummer! We had a BB F! ressie for Sunday's 8:45 show and I was so nervous it was going to cancel because of the rain, but thankfully it went on, sans fire breathing. While we were sitting in BB eating, he said we could change our mind because he didn't know if it would go on, but we decided to chance it.

Unfortunatey you got what I like to call "Maleficent on a stick" which is the back up to Murphy the dragon (she has a really rough start and still can be a bit finicky) due to weather or tech issues. It's not as spectacular, of course, but in live shows, stuff happens.

I was at the park on Tuesday, March 3 and the dragon was out for the Fantasmic show.

This used to happen much more often, the first year or two after the new dragon's debut. She definitely earned the nickname Murphy. These days, she is in the show most of the time.
