When did the MK loose great rides like 20,000 leagues or If I had wings or my all time favorite Mr. Toads Wild Ride? Also, when did they remove the horse drawn rides at the front of the park (the ole A ticket Ride). Also, on Space mountain, you use to sit one person infront of another, is it still that way? I enjoyed the ride but found it kinda uncomfortable way back in those late 70's early 80's.

Welcome to the new millenium. I can't tell you the exact dates that 20000 leagues, Wings, and Toad bit the dust. However, Space Mountain is still front to back rather than side by side. Somethings never change. Sounds like you are WAY overdue for a visit!! :sunny:

Mr Toads wild ride magically turned into winnie the pooh...

I think it was around the millennium celebration.

When I was there in 2002, Space had front to back seating, and I hope they don't channge, like they did at DL, I couldn't ride it at DL last year, because I couldn't fit my long legs in, GRRRRR!!

I think the horse-drawn carriages are still there, but only in the morning. We were so busy going for the rides in the morning, we didn't check it out.
20,000 hasn't been there forever, but I didn't realize it until I was making plans. This was one I remembered fondly - I think I heard DL is making plans for an underwater ride ala Nemo? Can still see the tracks in the lagoon in satellite photos tho at WDW.
I think some of it is getting more "modern", so they can keep up with the things people like and are familar with today. I enjoyed the cable car ride they had and that one is gone too. But you have Stitch, Buzz and Nemo rides, which are a constant in our children's lifes. And I think Pooh enjoyed a resurgence about 15 years ago--my son loved him when he was young! I do miss some of the old rides, and from what I heard many are lamenting Mr. Toad being gone (I probably rode it, but cannot for the life of me remember it!).

The satellite pictures are old. The area where 20,000 was, has been filled in and is now a Winnie the Pooh play area (> 1 year ago, I think).

Welcome from me too!

SM still has front to back seating BUT... I know what you mean - now there are seat backs for each person. You used to have to actually sit in person's lap behind you - if you leaned back, you were leaning on their chest! Now the seats are separated but they are still in a single file line. I hope that helps!

Yes, the horses are there pulling the trolleys every morning.

For part of the day, there is a "singing and dancing" SHOW that is performed using the trolley as a "stage" during that show.
("We're Walkin' Right Down the Middle of Main Street, USA" and "The Trolley Song" from MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS.)

Otherwise, guests can ride the trolley one-way on Main Street like before.

They lead the horses out of the park in the afternoons because of all the guests who line Main Street waiting for the 3 O'Clock Parade.

After the parade (later afternoon and evening), the crowd-levels are quite high so they don't have enough room (safety factor) for the horses and trolleys.

That just leaves the mornings.

I thought I remembered it being like that!!!!! It is much better now! Each person has an individual seat.

I think we are showing our age. :woohoo:

I think there have been some wonderful changes: Pooh instead of Mr. Toad, for example; and Buzz Lightyear instead of If I had Wings. Walt Disney said that the parks would be ever-changing and WDW has lived up to that prediction, and that vitality has kept our family coming back, year-after-year.

Was reading another thread and they mentioned Mission to Mars. I'm trying to remember...I thought there was a ride where you went to the moon, and the seats inflated and deflated to give you the feeling you were taking off and what not (it wasn't Mission:Space, that's for sure  !). Is that the same one or am I way off here?
