Hi Gang

When I talk to friends and family about going to WDW sometimes I have to bite my tongue. They just don't get it. I'll hear "Wow that's expensive... just for a vacation..." or "There are lots of hotels just outside of Disney that are really cheap!". I like this one... "Yeah we're going to Florida on vacation. I think we may go to Disney for a day.". ARE YOU NUTS?? In Florida, on vacation, may go to Disney, no plan.... ARRGH!!

When I think about going on vacation at WDW it's like going to no other place. It's truely a world within itself. The theming, architecture and atmosphere reminds me no where else but Disney. It's like you've gone to some secret place totally separate from the stresses of the real world. One big thing for me and my young family is that when you go to Disney you are truely taken care of. Things are thought of for you so that you'll have fun. All the little things add up and you feel that you're not there to make decisions or to be stressed. Your there to relax and have fun. It also reminds me of my childhood and going to the MK as a kid. Now to see my son having an amazing time and to see the spark in his eyes. I can't think of many other vacations that do that for us.

I always talk about our trip in 2003 we had an awesome time. My DW and DS(5 now) we'll never for get it. It's funny, just last night my son, just before going to bed said to me "Do you think that we'll ever go back to the Swan and Mickey's house??". Ahhh to be a parent and to know that we'll definitely be going back.

We now have a 1 year old daughter and are hoping to go back in June. I can't wait to firm up our plans and to tell our little guy that we're headed back. :D

I've gotten to the point were I don't really care what others think. When I'm at Disney, I don't even remember that I'm in Orlando. It is a separate world all by itself. Nothing is better.

:flower1:

Yes, I know the feeling. But, I really don't care too much what others think. I just say, "some people go to the beach every year, we go to Disney World". There is so much to see and do, and nothing else can hold my kids attention. If we go somewhere else for a mini vacation, I catch myself regreting it because I could be saving that money for a longer WDW vacation.

If the people around don't understand what Disney is all about, and all they do is whine and complain about the pricing, crowds, etc., I just let it roll off my back. I try to give 'Disney Tips' to my friends and co-workers (when I'm working/temping) to the first timers to Disney to help them out, and if they take them then great, if they don't then it's their loss. I always have a great time, no matter what and that's what counts~!

I get the same old "Why Are You Going There Again?" or "Wow, that must be expensive!"
I gave up telling people, its not worth it anymore!
D.D.

Our family loves Disney also! My husband and I say that as long as the kids want to go to Disney- then that's where we are going!! I know people who go to the Jersey shore for 1 wk., and if the weather is bad- then what do you do? You've spent all that money. At least at Disney there are so many other options for a rainy day!! :flower:

Wow, what a coincidence! My ILs are the same AND there's more to it! We have never even been there yet but they still don't understand why I have to plan everything so early. Case in point: When I was booking the rooms for early spring with the recently expired codes, they could not know why I booked them sooo early. I tried explaining it to them that it's cheaper vs. rack rates and the rooms fill up quickly. They thought all of the planning could be done in a month prior to leaving. I'm sure it can be done in a month but since we've never been there before, the necessary research would have been overwhelming! BTW, when we first decided to go to WDW for our upcoming vacation, none of the ILs wanted to plan it. So, that left it up to me, which is fine. I just wish they would be more cooperative and understanding as it's just me planning this trip. Sigh.....

This topic comes up a lot over on the DVC board. Our friends and family "just don't get it" when it comes to WDW and the vaction club. I am not the type to lay on the beach for a week with no change of scenery. At Disney World there is always something new to explore.

I completly understand! everyone thought I was CRAZy to book out trip in aug when were not going till july. but come on you have to plan!!!! and I still get the same " I can't believe your paying that much!" WHY CAN'T THEY UNDERSTAND!

I absolutely love WDW!! DS5 doesn't really even care, and doesn't like the characters all that much, but me! THE 28 YEAR OLD MOM!!! I love WDW!!!!!

I have a co-worker who is very opinionated, she always said she would never go and one of her reasons is that she wasn't going to do "what everyone else thinks they HAVE to do" and she just didn't get the whole WDW thing.

Well last year her daughter wanted to go and her IL's said if she would take them they would pay--well of course she would go to WDW if someone else paid because she sure wasn't paying-------well-------now she is one of WDW's biggest fans and I think it is down right hilarious!!!!!!

Since getting my trip for Christmas (3/12-3/17, POFQ), I've been talking to friends and co-workers that have been to WDW. I am AMAZED at how little some of them get out of the experience!

One friend when I asked her where she stayed in Dec /03: "I don't remember the name. It was on property and it had a neat pool." Were you drunk???

Same friend when I asked her about Epcot: "We didn't go. We were told to skip it; we wouldn't like it!"

A co-worker when I asked her where she stayed on Oct 04: "Ummm.....Port Orleans" I said "Ooohhh...which one?" Answer: "I didn't know there were two of them! The one with all the trees, I guess." ????

Another co-worker when I asked about going with her son during Magic Music Days: "We didn't ride any rides"

Maybe my hubby and I are WAY overdoing it but we're just trying to make sure we get as much bang for our buck as possible! We're spending the money to be in the parks; by gosh, we're going to enjoy it!

We've got 4 PS's (B'fast at 1900 PF, Lunch at Sci Fi, Liberty Tree, dinner at Portobello and Rose and Crown for fireworks) and are going to make sure we see as much as we can! Here's hoping we have a great trip!!!! And it'll be a much bigger deal to me than it is to all those other people. I'm sure THEY regret spending the money! WE do not!!!

I travel for six months of the year for work. Everyday I meet people who talk about their various vacations, mostly the talk has to do with the problems encountered such as unscrupulous money changers, food that makes them ill, the squallor and dirt found in various locals. When they finish talking the invariably ask me where I go for vacation when I say "Disneyworld" they look at me like I was crazy. But I never have to deal with the issues that ruin their holidays.
Disneyworld is a place where I know everything will work, where I do not have to worry about pollution, garbage, dirty water, and all those other things.
Over the years I have stopped talking to coworkers about Disneyworld, as it has been said "they do not and never will get it".
Better yet, there is always something new to do. Having been going for nearly thirty years I can still say that I have not done and seen everything that I wanted. but maybe the next trip I will.

My husband's aunt, uncle & cousin went last year...I was at Thanksgiving w/ them this year...all they could do was complain that coffee cost too much & they didn't like it that there wasn't a coffee maker in the room....I asked where they stayed--they couldn't tell me. They didn't remember!!

I also asked them if they called housekeeping to ask for a coffee maker--they didn't know they could. AURGH!!!! No wonder they didn't have a good time--they didn't plan.....

Ah yes, I get that a lot! I don't care, I love Disney and if I go every year then by golly I go every year.

This may seem like a weird selfish thing to do but when I was younger, my family went the same week in Feb for many years. Well I remember all my friends were jealous that I got to go to Disney so darn much. Odd thing is I want to do the same thing for my kids, I want to give them the same thing I had when I was growing up - to be able to go to Disney every year. Now I am not interested in making their friends jealous. But I figure there will come a point where they won't want to go so I am sure going to take full advantage of going when they do want to go.

I also get "but there are so many other places to go". Yes this is true and again, when the kids don't want to go to Disney, then we will go to some of those places. I also want them to be old enough to remember some of the places like Mt Rushmore and so on.

To each their own :)

On our first trip to the world in June, we bought AP's and people thought we were crazy. Asked if we were sure we would even like it that much to go back LOL. PULEEEZE!! Well, we are going for our 3rd trip next month, and it is not up for discussion with In Laws or co-workers. We will not tell them we are going. They don't understand and I don't feel it is necessary for me to explain myself. We are hooked on WDW!! End of discussion :D

this am I came to work all excited to tell co-workers that I got PS at CRT and the reponses I got was didn't you just go there a few yrs ago?...

I'm saying...you don't understand...do you have any idea how hard CRT breakfast is to get..I am buying a lottery tix tonight !

Many think of a visit to disney as being a one park (MK) to be done once in a lifetime and then it is done....that's fine...stay away..more CODES, less LINES :flower1:

I didn't even tell anyone on my side of the family we are going back in May. They all know we are going in December because I asked my sister to go along. She would never be able to go on her own and everyone we know has been there at least once. I feel bad and want her to enjoy some magic. She is the main reason I did not tell my side of the family. I know she would be happy for us but I don't want to fell like I am rubbing it in to her and we can't take her in May.

My Husbands side however Know. I am sure they think we are wasting money but it is our money to waste. :earboy2: My in Laws will be with us the last two or three days of our May trip and then they will be taking our children to ther home so DH and I can have a few nights alone at Disney. They live half way between us and disney. They will also be going with us in December. How can they complain about us going? this will be our Third trip since July 2004. We have AP'a now so Look out! :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

My best friend and I try to take a "Mothers' Trip" each year. We always end up and WDW. We TRY to plan other destinations, but we keep coming back to Disney. Its just so easy. Once you get on the property you are in another world and do not have to get back in your car until it is time to leave! The food is great and there is so much to do. The question we always get is "what is there to do when you don't have your kids with you?" Are you kidding me? We basically just eat, drink, and shop our way around the world. If a ride gets in the way, we ride it!

I also have friends and family that don't get our multiple trips to WDW. I have been to WDW about 20 times and DL 3 times. I guess you have to be a Disney fanatic to get it. I don't try to explain it. I just smile knowingly. The problem I have is my DH doesn't get it. He'll go for me and kids (sometimes wish he wouldn't), but there are many other places he would rather be! So, we send him off to the golf courses and we do the parks. This keeps him semi-happy!

Also, I agree with the previous poster about those who go without a plan! How can you spend that much money and not get the most out of it? I don't mean running yourself ragged; but to miss Epcot???!!?? I don't get it!

:moped: yes i know what you mean ive been renamed mrs disney because i luv it so but yes it is my dream holiday i cant think of anywhere else id rather go . :cloud9:

But that's okay. Because if I'm hearing it from my friends and family, then that means I'm going again! :Pinkbounc

I didn't make my first trip to Disney until I was 22 (I tease my parents that I was deprived as a child  ) and that was to DL.

Since then I've been to WDW and DL about a dozen times. I love it. Even though I do go other places, WDW is THE place where I can totally be a kid again and, if I'm feeling bummed out, it's a place to go to to be cheered up again.

If I don't go at least twice a year now, I feel like something's wrong. :D
