What foods/snacks would you ship to resort

Nope. We've done it twice. No charges, no problems! :D

I just have to put my 2 cents in here. I love to ship stuff down there ahead of time. I think its a great idea (we always stayed in hotels). Weather on site or off, I know I don't LIKE to go to the grocery store while on vacation. haha And also, I dont' like to spend as some one mentioned in a post above mine- $4.00 on oatmeal for your kid(s) and then you're looking at 7-8 or maybe more like 10-12 dollars depending on where you go and how much you eat per person for breakfast. Nutri grain bars are good too. When we went a few years ago I shipped down a bunch of stuff. I even sent down a case of water, a toaster, poptarts, even a loaf of bread. Its not that we couldn't take time out to go buy a few things, but heck, if I can ship it down there and have it be brought up to our room by some one else..... you know- its just cool! :D Lets see- what else did we take. We're big licorish (sp?) eaters so we sent a few bags of those, and fruit snacks, and goldfish crackers. See some of this stuff then we'd put in each kids fanny pack for them to chow in the parks. I advise anyone to do it that way. GREAT idea IMHO.

Good "light" snacks that wouldn't add to much pounds to your shipping would be flavored rice cakes, pringles potatos chips, and those prepackaged rice crispy bars

whozit.....
that's jsut exactaly what we plan to do. I am traveling with my 6 Girl SCouts and 5 chaperones, flying down. Staying on site......don't even want to try to figure the logistics of traveling back and forth to another hotel. Since we are strictly on the budget plan to do this trip, the UPS box is the way to go. Will be using transportation lile Tiffany's and will use the grocery stop for perishables. Most of the chaperones will be working the day we leave, getting down there about 9 pm, so big shopping is stupid for us to try to do. Jsu hope we can find a grocery nearby other than goodings that may be open that late or later if our flight is delayed or something.

Okay guys, I'm learning here. Ya'll are telling me that I should box up all of my "goodies" and have them shipped to the hotel and that they'll hold the stuff until we get there. How far ahead do you ship and what do you put on the box so they know to whom it belongs?:)

Why do I remember Disers haing problems with the resorts holding packages or charging a fee last year? Or was that only for net grocier????

We drove so I brought a bunch of stuff, way to much and ended up bringing it back home. Don't overpack to much stuff.

I rented a car (one way, just to get to resort), so I stopped at the grocery store myself, but with your sized group, the towncar is a better option. From what I've read on these boards, many of the grocery stores are open late or 24 hours) and the towncars will take you to one that has reasonable prices (look at the Transportation board for suggestions and reviews on the towncars....you might search the Transportation board for the word grocery and you'll find out where the different services like to stop). Do think ahead though.....with just 20 minutes or so for a stop, you'll want to have a list. We used a cooler with ice in the room instead of renting a fridge, so I didn't want meat around very long (didn't want to risk getting sick), but we got some deli turkey and ham for sandwiches on the first day. If you have a fridge, that shouldn't be a concern. I reloaded the ice in the cooler daily and was comfortable keeping milk, juice, a block of cheese (string cheese, too), and yogurt, also bought the bagged, ready to eat baby carrots and some grapes. We also bought apples and oranges....the room was cool enough that these were fine to leave at room temp. We ate plenty of "junk" on the trip, but at least I felt like I had enough "real" food that I wouldn't return my 10 year old niece to my sister with scurvy.

We were at WDW 8/8-8/15. Stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. I called ahead to ask them if they would accept a box--they said of course. They gave me a street address (it was slightly different that the address shown on my reservation paperwork). They said to address is to Resort Guest "your name here", Arrival date mm/dd/yy, then the shipping address. When I checked in, they pulled up the reservation and it had a notation that there was a package for me. They said they could bring it out to me right then, or have bell services send it to my room. I would check directly with your resort, in case they have any different policies.

As far as timing, I shipped it UPS ground (cheap). I checked on UPS's website (or you can call them) to find out how long it will take to get from the zip code you are shipping from to the zip code you are shipping to. I shipped it so the guaranteed arrival date was 3 days before I left home, then I checked on the package with the tracking number and verified that it arrived on that date and had the name of the person that signed for it. I chose the 3 day advance arrival date for the package because you don't hear about too many lost packages, but occasionally you hear of a misdirected one....I felt like three days was a reasonable period of time for them to track it down and reroute it. By the way, it arrived on schedule.

Thanks Whozit. I greatly appreciate the info. I would have NEVER thought to send stuff ahead. :smooth:
