What food do you usually pick up when shopping in the U.S.?

We just went a few weeks ago.
We are going to a waterpark for DD's birthday soon and I made a list for when I go to Walmart and/or the grocery store:

Simply Delicious hash browns, green bag(special request from our neighbor)
Cheese
Shredded cheese
Cream cheese
Juice
Sandwich meat
Cheesecake
MIL wants big bags of cereals from Walmart. the fake honeycombs etc.

also: revlon face cream and neutrogena for men face cream.
I have found some face creams DH and I use to be half price in the US.

ALmost anything low salt or non salt - yea I know it is weird - considering the diet in the US - but in any old Wegmans you can get a lot of stuff low salt or no salt - I have to try and keep the salt down, but I love ketchup, and both Heinz and Hunts have no salt ketchup - you can even get it in Walmarts ( in the US), the low salt cheese kinda sucks, but the low salt sliced ham is great...

Also Amber Bach beer - really good dark beer
Fruit Loops - DW loves them..

Mrs Butterworths syrup and that is about it nothing else there really is all that great oh and Apple Jacks because they aren't available here anymore. Other than those 2 things there is nothing they have in the states that I must have honestly.

I'll join the cereal gang...Sugar Smacks which we haven't been able to buy in probably 20 years here, and KIX (sugar pops without the sugar)

...oh and fritos for my friend Barb > much better than the ones we get.

We buy scobby doo cookies that look like dog treets
little debbie's from the doller tree, perry's icecream(it's extreamly laoded with stuff), any cereal we can't get like fruity pebbles and apple jacks, cereal milk straws, milk because it's cheap, Diapers the cheap kind are 12 a box.

I *must* buy Rice Chex -- I absolutely love them but we can't get them here. And I buy kid cereals like chocolate Rice Krispies and other junky, sugar and weird color loaded cereals. Great for treats!!
Last time I was down I bought Gator Ade in smaller bottles (it was a great price at Super Wal Mart) and snack foods that we can;t get here (like the goldfish pretzels, the cheez whiz with pretzel dippers, etc). If I thought ahead to bring a cooler I could buy some of the neat colder stuff too but I always forget.

Oh and I always buy Aleve. ;-)

LOL I almost forgot about those dog biscuit graham crackers, the kids thought they were the best. We love the rainbow fish crackers too, and the pretzel ones (which I've seen up here, but not all the time), we LOVE the nutter butter cookies, and the individual cups of peanut butter, and all the cartoon character themed snacks/kd/etc.....on a more healthy note the all bran with yogurt clusters is good, and the selection of reduced fat cheese and healthier packaged snack foods is better, really they have so much that we never get, at easter they even have little bunny shaped kraft marshmallows! I always head over around special holidays for cute little candies, school treats and whatnot. The sunscreen over there is cheaper too, and they have 70+ which we don't get in the spray can. They have mouth rinse for kids that I don't see up here either, which shows them where to brush gah, so many choices I end up wandering the aisles in a daze, probably with my mouth hanging wide open at all the cool stuff:rolleyes1

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone - WOW! Took me a long time to take note of all the great stuff to look for.

Oh, I can see the Target bill now...LOL

YEEHAW! Shopping here I come!

I am not from Canada.

But I found this thread so interesting! I can't believe you guys get such thrills out of the simpliest foods! I'm not being rude, I'm just so surprised that this kind of stuff isn't available there!

Ahhh... but we have ketchup chips!

Now back to the original topic...

Glad to read this post :) I'm a Canadian who has never driven to US before. All our previous trips are to Orlando :P

We will be in GWL next week and DW wanted to cross the border to buy something at Walmart and some baby clothings at outlets. So it is fine to cross border for a few hours? When I am back to Canada, I just say we went for shopping and show our receipts?

Can we buy food in the states? I'd love to buy some crackers and canned coffee (Stackbucks Iced Espresso) that are not available in Canada.

Shall we go on a Sunday, or a Tuesday? Does it make a difference?

You can buy what you want and pay duty(which is ususaly GST+PST) on your purchases, If they are minimal amounts of shopping, then they MAY let you through without paying, but it has not been my experience latetly. Be careful of meat and veggies as i don't know the rules on those but i don't know what you can bring back in those items. Sundays might be more busy but i don't think the borders on the weekend are as busy as they were a few months ago. Check out the Walmart and Target is also very good for shopping. Have fun!

Rainbow goldfish, "Cars" fruit gummies, and peanut butter Captain Crunch.

From this thread I'm thinking it's about time they start selling rainbow goldfish here!!!

1. Hot fudge sundae Pop Tarts

2. Kool aid blasters

3. Different fruit snacks for the kids to show off at school

4. Scooby cookies

5. Apple Jacks

6. Cherry coke

7. Blush (yes the makeup, always find it cheap at the grocery store of all places)

8. Anything else that looks cool!

Milk - cheaper!
Beer - cheaper!
Budweiser BBQ sauce (Walmart Supercentre) - yum!
Yoplait light yogurt - lemon cream pie and very cherry are the best!
Shredded cheese for tacos, quesedillas and pizza is only $1.97 at Walmart and Target!
I'm sure there's tons more - I go over every week to get gas and pick up a few things for food - always find something good!

The treats for the kids are awesome....my guys love picking out the stuff you just can't get here, cereals, fruit chews, etc. I love their salad dressings...more to choose from ...if you like Blue Cheese, you have to try Ken's!!! We always stock up on the Kraft parmesan cheese that comes in it's own twist & shred container....so much better than the shake ones!

Also more types of Lunchables, yogurts, refrigerated biscuits & cookies and baking mixes.

Oh that reminded me -- some of the Krusteaz muffin mixes (low fat) are delicious!!

Thanks for the ideas so far. I'm making a big list!

Keep the ideas coming...thanks!

Cookie Crisp cereal
If they have them, (depending on your region) Tombstone Frozen pizzas
and my personal addiction, Pop Secret MUST BE Homestyle::yes::
