I am going solo for the first time and have requested to stay three nights in the Bayou section, building Alligator 18 or 14 or 15 and three nights in the Magnolia Building, inner courtyard view.

I've read that the second floor can get bad when there are smokers outside but I'm thinking I may feel safer on the second floor more than the first floor.

What do you think??? I don't plan on staying out late at night but instead leaving out early each morning to the parks.

We stayed on the first floor in Bldg. 37 last May, and felt very safe. I went alone out a few times late at night and didn't mind a bit. I think you'd have a problem with smokers on either floor, since it seems to me that a lot of them (not all) aren't going to walk away from the room area to light up. Bldg. 37 is a non-smoking building, and we didn't have too many times when we encountered anyone smoking, although a guy in the room about eight doors down stood just outside his door for what seemed like 24 hours a day puffing away! (He was a slob, too---threw his butts right on the ground!).

I don't plan on making any room requests for my December stay except for a non-smoking room. I enjoy the excitement of "the luck of the draw" as far as rooms go. I care whether we're close to the food court or all the way at the other end. The resort is beautiful (and I imagine even more so at Christmas time), and the walk from even the farthest buildings is no more than 10 minutes.

I had requested building 14 or 18 but ended up in building 25. At first I wasnt happy being that far out but it actually ended up being really good. We were right next to a quiet pool and not far from the west depot. And it was quiet, not many people walking by. I;m not sure if it was non- smoking or not, but our room didnt smell like anyone had smoked in it before.

We were in building 18. Never noticed any smoke.
We were on the side by the quiet pool and the laundry facility.
Second floor and it was quiet.
Nice......but I still prefer the mansion section.

Upper floor-definitely! POR is my solo resort, stayed there solo 5 times. The first floor is probably perfectly safe, but for some reason I feel so much safer on the upper floor. The only time I asked for a room change was after they'd given me a first floor room. I thought I'd be OK, but for some reason I didn't feel comfortable. Maybe it's just a little oddity of mine, but when I go solo I'm fine about being alone, but I must have an upper floor room!

I would feel safe on either floor, but you can hear flushing from the upstairs. Up is quieter. Smokers usually stick outside their own doors, so I wouldn't worry about that. If they could just learn to dispose of their butts properly and not throw them on the beautiful grounds!

There have been two occasions when staying in the mansion section that we ended up staying on the third floor. It seemed quieter. I mean, all the rooms, whether first floor or third, are great, but I loved the third floor. Just seemed quieter. I don't remember seeing too many people. I keep telling mom we should request third floor, but we both agree pot luck is better.

We've stayed in the Magnolia Terrace mansion 4x. We only had ground floor once. We felt perfectly safe, but there was more foot traffic & noise on the first floor. It is a non-smoking building & we never encountered any problems with smoke. It is a beautiful resort, have a great stay!
