What exactly is a navigator's verandah?

Hello everyone from the great white north! I'm booking a cruise for my baby kitten (well, she's 10) and me (husband is staying home to take care of the animals, bless him) but I don't understand what they mean by an enclosed verandah (navigator' veranda) does that mean that you don't have fresh air? I'm sorry if this is an unintellingent question, but this is our first cruise ever and I want to make sure that we can have a nice view. I am so glad that I found this website, I will learn a lot!

That is not an unintelligent question at all, and this site is the best source for virtually any answer.
I figure that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I have photos of all the verandah types, including the nav. verandahs, on my website at www.castawayclub.com
The nav verandahs are more enclosed but have an opening that does not have any glass or covering, so you get the air and sea breeze. I have sailed in one once, and I found it to be very cozy.

We got a navigator's verandah on our last cruise and I booked it again for the next cruise. I liked being able to sit and look at the ocean but we had much more privacy and it blocked the wind. We really enjoyed it.

You did like the navigator's verandah? I'm just not sure, since it's our first cruise ever, I thought my daughter would like to sit out on the verandah and have an unobstructed view of the ocean. Do you think it's worth it to book the category 6 stateroom with verandah for that reason. When you say windy, how windy?

We have cruised on the Wonder and the Magic and had Verandah each time. The last time we went with the navigator's verandah and it was nice. We liked the privacy and it did cut back on some of the breeze. I would book the navigator's verandah again.

I'm a big fan of the Navigator verandas. We've had them on two previous cruises and have one booked for December.

We've also had the regular plexiglass veranda and while that is very nice I don't think it is as cozy as the navigator. Another plus is the the regular veranda has a table and two chairs. The navigator veranda has a padded chair, small wood table and a padded bench. I like to stretch out on the bench and read.

I also love the location of the navigators.

I know many people prefer the plexiglass ones so they can sit and look down at the water or so the kids can look at the water without climbing up.

We had a navigator's verandah in November and LOVED it .... especially on our last night (headin' back towards Florida) it was REALLY windy (the captain was tryin' his best to out run a storm & he just wasn't having a ton of luck). With our navigator's verandah we could still sit outdoors, enjoy the fresh air & not get wet (whenever it rained) or blown off the ship by the wind.

And honestly, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that your 10 year old will only be in the cabin long enough to sleep & change clothes. If she ever does sit on the verandah, it'll probably be at night, and you can't really see the ocean in the dark anyway

We have had both & we definitely prefer the 'regular' plexiglas verandahs (RV) for two reasons: 1) openness (I felt too enclosed in the NV) 2) The view

Although, I liked the NV - & the bench was comfortable, I like to be able to sit down on the chairs & enjoy the sun & view of the ocean. When you sit on the NV you can't see anything but the sky. Also, when you sit inside the cabin & have the blinds open you can still see the seas with the RV.

Many who prefer the NV say that it protects you from the wind, but I really haven't felt it "too windy" with the RV.

Personal preference, but those are our reasons.

Oh dear, now I'm really confused! So if you stand up in the navigator verandah, can you kind of lean out over the edge to see the water or no? Of course, we are only going for the 3 night cruise, we're staying at the resort for 7 days prior to the cruise so I guess I shouldn't get too stressed, it's a vacation, yes?

The porthole is open & you ARE outside.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you'll like the NV. After all, it IS a verandah & they're great!!

You'll be busy enough doing everything on the ship. Have fun!

Can someone clarify which cat NV and a RV are? I'm still confused about which is which. My DH really wants a RV, but I think it may not be worth the $. This is our first cruise and I doubt will be in the room much. At the parks we are never in our room.

Any thoughts?
