What exactly happens during Mission: Space?

(WARNING...SPOILERS) You spin, but you don't realize it if you are looking at the screen in front of you! At least that is how you get the g-force. 1st you go to a debriefing room. Then you enter your shuttle. You are assigned a duty. As the ride begins, you get into take off position, (facing upward). Then you blast off (g-force), then you slow down and float through space, g-force again as you blast pass the moon, eventually you end up in hypersleep, then wake up, blast off again, go home. Dh cannot handle this ride on a full stomach. DS(11) can ride it multiple times with a full or empty stomach and doesn't ever get sick!

If you have ever ridden an amusement park ride or carnival ride called "Round Up" the motion is similar, except you are seated rather than standing, facing the center of rotation. In addition your body may be tilted forward or back. I am not sure whether you are also lifted. Because you are in a closed cabin you cannot see all the other people in the circle, just the other 3 in "your flight team". I am told that pushing the buttons "correctly" or "incorrectly" does nothing.

I tried Mission Space once close to when it opened, was giddy for the next half hour, and thought to myself, "never again". Contrast that with chickening out of Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and also Test Track, for several years, then riding each once and then again and again.

We love this ride. Me and my DS7 can handle it more times in a row than DD13 & DH. It doesn't get me sick at all....but I do make sure I face forward and look into the monitor. Its really a very cool ride and its something I wouldn't want to miss.

i go on mission space last at epcot because i am not in the mood for any other rides for a bout an hour. just a queasy feeling in the stomach, but that doesnt stop me from going on it every time..

Hi! Just did this a few days ago for the first time with my family. It is more intense than i thought it would be...we all handle all types of rides just fine. In the end, I was the only one who would do it again. Everyone (DD's 9 and 11, DH) said they liked it but it was too intense to do it again. DD, 9 didn't like the "cheeks stretched back" feeling, DD, 11, didn't like the body restraint, and DH just felt "off" for awhile afterwards. It really is a cool ride - very different from anything I've ever done. I agree with above poster that the feelings are created by the same idea of the "Roundup" rides, but the similarities end there.

Try it...it's a neat experience! :flower:

Short and sweet.... a whole lot of nausea. But then again, I can't handle tea cups.

ok so it sounds if we do decide to do it, it needs to be our last ride of the day. :teeth:

just checked out the ride video...wow that looks awesome. i definately have to try it, i'll worry about the consequences later. :rotfl:

my dh & I rode it fort he 1st time a few weeks ago. It's an AWESOME ride! I will ride it again BUT I felt VERY VERY nauseous for proably 2 hrs afterward...for 30mins I sat with my little bag in my hand (they are in front of you on the ride..just in case)...but it eventually passed. NOW if you can't handle any visual simulators then DON"T DO RIDE THIS!!! (you know - BOdy Wars, etc) ---those actually don't bother me - I never get sick on rides---BUT this one got to me---BUT it sure was GREAT & I'd ride it again! :earsboy:
DON"T ride it in the middle of the day - when you've been outside & hot & sweaty I know the heat alone makes me feel queasy nowadays (& I LIVE IN FL!) we did it in the a.m. & I was fine after sitting in the play area for a while & munched on crakers to calm myself & then walked slowly around a while....
BUT YA GOTTA TRY IT -

I am SOOooo glad I read this thread...I WON'T be going on this ride.... I almost puke 'watching' the tea cups go around and around. :scared:

I rode reluctantly because spinning rides, like the tea cups, or the "tilt-a-whirl" haven't agreed with me the last few years.

Mission Space doesn't spin like tea cups, though. I guess it's like a merry-go-round, only a little faster!

Riders are instructed to look straight into the screen in front of them. I took this very seriously and never even glanced off to the side. Everyone in our family except the youngest rode MS and we all loved it!

I have never been sick from any ride I have every been on in my life..... until I met MISSION SPACE.

OMG!!! I was so sick when I got off for about 3 hours.. but with that said.. I can't wait to try again. It's a cool ride but if I get sick again, I'll know I've met my match...

It is an awesome ride. Disney has toned it down a bit. You get some simulated gs on takeoff and a brief 10 seconds of simulated weigthlessness. During the ride you do not notice the spinning if you keep looking at the monitor. Afterwards, you may be a little dizzy but that passes.

walk me through the ride to i can decide to ride it or not. :teeth:

Here's my version of the walkthrough for M:S :

1. You Spin.

2. You get sick.

3. You walk around dizzy the rest of the day.

:o

WOW if THAT"S toned down I can't imagine how sick I would have gotten on a nontoned down version!!!!

That's the same thing that has happened to my husband -- twice now. He's "not allowed" on MS anymore. Now there are 2 rides at WDW he can't do -- MS and teacups.

You wait a really long time
You line up outside of the simulator
You spend the entire ride trying not to puke
You feel awful after you exit and wonder why in the world you actually waited to go on this thing.

I did it ONCE last October and that was it, for LIFE! My eight year old son went on it with his uncle at least six times!

I have no problem on roller coaster type rides, but not so good on spinning rides. I was probably 10 seconds from losing it when the ride mercifully ended.
