there have been multiple stories of people discovering several days into their trip that the plan included another drink or side or what have you. i would like to make an informed decision.

do QS meals come with a side? if i get a burger, do i get french fries? if i get a combo meal, does that count as my meal + side?

can someone just tell me EXACTLY what we can get at both QS and TS restaurants? thank you!

There's no cut and dried answer of what you can get EXACTLY because it varies. There are some generalizations that you can use as a basis, such as:

The CS dining plan pdf says Breakfast is an "entree and non-alc beverage"
and Lunch and Dinner are "entree, dessert & non-alc beverage."

When you are at the CS or TS you get everything that is included in the description of the main item. If there is a side on another entree you would rather have it can usually be subbed. If, however, it is further down on the menu and has a separate price point, then you would have to pay OOP for it. The most common one people ask about is fries at Flame Tree which aren't included as a side and has a separate price point.

Sometimes you can sub fruit or a bottle of water or yogurt for the dessert, especially at CS places. Breakfast used to include 2 beverages, but no longer, so this may be the "another drink" you heard about.

At TS the description following the entree will tell you what is included. Again you can usually substitute a side if it's listed for another entree.

For drinks, some of the Disney owned restaurants will allow shakes, smoothies or virgin cocktails as the non-alc beverage - ask first. The non-Disney owned venues are much stricter because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the limitations of the dining plan so they typically adhere to the fountain drinks requirement.

Because it's not always the same, it's best to ask what is or isn't included, especially since it sometimes varies with the CM.

On the DDP (regular plan)...

CS includes entree, side, dessert and non alcoholic beverage.
Meaning if you get a burger you can get fries or potatoe chips (for example), dessert and a drink.
You can choose the "combo" meal at any CS which will include the above. And yes that will count as your entree and side item.
Sometimes you can substitute your dessert for a bottle of water.

TS meals include the entree, side, dessert and non alcoholic beverage.
Usually the "meat" portion of the entree will have a "side" listed with it. That is counted as your "side" item. You don't get an extra side, it is just listed with it.
You can sometimes substitute "that" side for another side that is offered with another "meat" but you can't get a side item if it isn't with another entree.

You mentioned above that people have not realized that they could've gotten an extra "drink" or side and didn't realize this.
I believe you are referring to a breakfast CS, where you could get an extra drink. That is NO longer offered.

Hope that clears it up for you.

There are a few exceptions to the above rule. You can substitute one of the sides listed at the bottom of the menu for the side listed with your entree at both Yachtsman and Artist Point. I always substitute the mushrooms at Yachtsman for the potato and the sweet potato gratin for whatever side they have listed for my entree at Artist Point. Also for some reason this past year, Artist Point has started telling patrons to choose an additional side from the bottom of the menu if you are on the DxDDP. They never did in the past, but this past year both times I've eaten there, I've been told to choose two sides.:confused3

No DDP meal includes a side unless it is part of a combo platter or comes with the entree (is listed with the entree and included with the price). Children's CS meals generally include an entree and two sides although one side counts as dessert. If the entree is listed as a burger and the fries are sold separately, the fries are not covered usually. If the entree is listed as "a burger with fries" then the fries ARE included.

If the side is listed apart from the entree and you have to pay extra for it, in general it is not included. There are some exceptions: for example, Earl of Sandwich includes the sandwich, a beverage and either a side like a bag of chips OR a dessert.

Substitution of sides may or may not be allowed. If you choose a prix fixe menu at a TS it will not be allowed.
