What exactly do they do to preserve your dress?

I'm thinking about getting mine preserved so I can wear it in about a year, but I'm kind of wondering what exactly they do. Can anyone let me know what the proper procedure is?

I am about to get mine preserved and all it seems they do is put it in an airtight container. I am not sure if they put any kind of chemicals or anything to it. But they did say to not open it for a few years.

What about having it cleaned after the wedding or right before you wear it and then after you wear it again having it preserved?

I have been married almost 10 years (Vow Renewal in December at WDW) and did not have my dress preserved for about 5 years. It was still in good shape before the preservation because I kept it in a bag I got from the dry cleaner and had moth balls in the closet. So you may have no problem with yours. You just may want to clean it before wearing it again, because it WILL get dirty dragging it around for pictures, down the aisle, etc.

When I had my gown preserved, they cleaned it and used some stain guard over it before it went first in tissue before going in the airtight box. It's pretty big but we put it in the closet. Frankly, I didnt know what to do with it, I just know I want it to be just as it was the day I wore it and preserving it is the best way to do that.
