Ok so I was at work today and started getting real hungry, I work at a University, so I decided to go get something to eat. I usually take my lunch with me to work but was running very late this morning so didn't have time to make one. Anyway, I head over to Subway to grab a bite to eat and while I'm standing in the line I notice one of the workers, that's putting the fixins' on people subs, reach to the back of her head and start playing (picking at) with her hair. Then she proceeds to put her hand right back on the persons sandwich.

I looked around at the other workers, mostly female, and none of them were wearing anything that wouldn've helped hold their hairback. One of the girls had long dark hair pulled half way up into the subway visor, but most of it was just dangaling all over the place.

What ever happened to people wearing hairnet when prepairing food for customers. I remembers years and years and years, ;), ago when I was 15 and worked at Burger King we could go anywhere remotely near the food without one. So since when did it become acceptable for servers not to wear something that control their hair.

ps. I got out of line and went to the vending machiene.

and I put my hair up so it isnt touching my collar, and my sun visor on...

Most states only require some typ of hair restraint....visor...ballcap...hairnet.

The kitchen where I work requires either a baseball cap or a hairnet:)

Yup,,, that's our "rule" to at a school kitchen (hairnet, cap, or visor)... we just had our sanitation inspection last month and either is acceptable to the state.

At the food court in the mall, I was waiting for DH to bring our order. I was sitting facing a counter service. It was one of those places where you go down the line and the server scoops the food onto a plate.

Well, the server behind the counter ran her bare hand through her hair, rubbed her finger across her runny nose, squeezing it sometimes, and then touched all the serving spoons in the food trays to stir up the food. This was her pattern for several minutes before someone came up to order.

Disgusting!

Luckily, DH got food from a different vendor.

Well I can tell you that the people working in the deli at my local Wal-Mart wear them! I noticed last week that the man working in the deli was wearing one (so not just only the ladies!), and he even had a special one that covered his (very short) beard! :thumbsup2

When I was waitressing the waitresses with long hair were required to wear it up or in a pony tail. The ones with short hair didn't have to do anything special.

The cooks, however, no matter how short or long their hair was either had to wear a baseball-style cap, or a hairnet. Most chose the cap.

Yesterday I got a Big Mac from McDonalds and took to burger back to work. In the break room, I opened my burger to take off the pickles and guess what was laying across the burger....a black hair. *sigh* It was just a reminder why I shouldn't look too closely at my food.

We just had our Wal-Mart re-open as a Super Wal-Mart not too long ago so it has produce, deli, bakery, etc in it (don't have many of these in Jersey). And the first time we went to the deli counter the employees had hairnets, gloves, and masks over their mouths I guess so their not sneezing, coughing, breathing on the deli meats, just thought that was interesting, never saw that before.

Hello from Health Inspector! I work in Ontario, Canada and enforce the Food Premises Regulations. There is a section in that legislation that states all food handlers are required to wear headgear that confines the hair. Hair net, ball cap visor. It's challenging but I deal with non-compliance on a daily basis.

I was all set to buy a pretzel at the mall the other day until I saw the guy working there. He had long curly hair, halfway to his waist and a very messy beard. No hairnet, hat or anything. I guess I saved a few calories there......

Sometimes, it doesn't even matter if people are wearing the gloves. I've seen places where they are made to wear the gloves, then they touch everything that is non-food, including their hair, nose, etc. with the gloves ON, and then go touch the food. :scared:

They might have actually been more aware of what they were touching, barehanded, and go to wash before touching food, after touching everything else. :confused3
